1 And the angel that spoke in me came again: and he waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep. And the angel who talked with me came again and woke me, like a man who is awakened out of his sleep. Then the angel who talked with me returned and woke me up, like someone awakened from sleep.
2 And he said to me: What seest thou? And I said: I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, and its lamp upon the top of it: and the seven lights thereof upon it: and seven funnels for the lights that were upon the top thereof. And he said to me, “What do you see?” I said, “I see, and behold, a lampstand all of gold, with a bowl on the top of it, and seven lamps on it, with seven lips on each of the lamps that are on the top of it. He asked me, “What do you see?” I answered, “I see a solid gold lampstand with a bowl at the top and seven lamps on it, with seven channels to the lamps.
3 And two olive trees over it: one upon the right side of the lamp, and the other upon the left side thereof. And there are two olive trees by it, one on the right of the bowl and the other on its left.” Also there are two olive trees by it, one on the right of the bowl and the other on its left.”
4 And I answered, and said to the angel that spoke in me, saying: What are these things, my lord? And I said to the angel who talked with me, “What are these, my lord?” I asked the angel who talked with me, “What are these, my lord?”
5 And the angel that spoke in me answered, and said to me: Knowest thou not what these things are? And I said: No, my lord. Then the angel who talked with me answered and said to me, “Do you not know what these are?” I said, “No, my lord.” He answered, “Do you not know what these are?” “No, my lord,” I replied.
6 And he answered, and spoke to me, saying: This is the word of the Lord to Zorobabel, saying: Not with an army, nor by might, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. Then he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of hosts. So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.
7 Who art thou, O great mountain, before Zorobabel? thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring out the chief stone, and shall give equal grace to the grace thereof. Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain. And he shall bring forward the top stone amid shouts of ‘Grace, grace to it!’” “What are you, mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground. Then he will bring out the capstone to shouts of ‘God bless it! God bless it!’”
8 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Then the word of the LORD came to me:
9 The hands of Zorobabel have laid the foundations of this house, and his hands shall finish it: and you shall know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me to you. “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also complete it. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent me to you. “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you.
10 For who hath despised little days? and they shall rejoice, and shall see the tin plummet in the hand of Zorobabel. These are the seven eyes of the Lord, that run to and fro through the whole earth. For whoever has despised the day of small things shall rejoice, and shall see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. “These seven are the eyes of the LORD, which range through the whole earth.” “Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the LORD that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?”
11 And I answered, and said to him: What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick, and upon the left side thereof? Then I said to him, “What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the lampstand?” Then I asked the angel, “What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the lampstand?”
12 And I answered again, and said to him: What are the two olive branches, that are by the two golden beaks, in which are the funnels of gold? And a second time I answered and said to him, “What are these two branches of the olive trees, which are beside the two golden pipes from which the golden oil is poured out?” Again I asked him, “What are these two olive branches beside the two gold pipes that pour out golden oil?”
13 And he spoke to me, saying: Knowest thou not what these are? And I said: No, my lord. He said to me, “Do you not know what these are?” I said, “No, my lord.” He replied, “Do you not know what these are?” “No, my lord,” I said.
14 And he said: These are two sons of oil who stand before the Lord of the whole earth. Then he said, “These are the two anointed ones who stand by the Lord of the whole earth.” So he said, “These are the two who are anointed to serve the Lord of all the earth.”
