1 For the one directing. According to Gittith. Of Asaph. Ring out praise to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob! Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob! 2 Lift up a melody and strike the timbrel, the sweet-sounding harp with the lute. Raise a song; sound the tambourine, the sweet lyre with the harp. Begin the music, strike the timbrel, play the melodious harp and lyre.
3 Blow the shofar on the new moon, on the full moon at the day of our Feast. Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the full moon, on our feast day. Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon, and when the moon is full, on the day of our festival;
4 For it is a statute, O Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob. For it is a statute for Israel, a rule of the God of Jacob. this is a decree for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
5 As a testimony He established it in Joseph, in His going forth over the land of Egypt. I heard a language that I did not know: He made it a decree in Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt. I hear a language I had not known: When God went out against Egypt, he established it as a statute for Joseph. I heard an unknown voice say:
6 “I turned aside his shoulder from the burden; his hands pass over from the basket. “I relieved your shoulder of the burden; your hands were freed from the basket. “I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket.
7 In the time of distress you called, and I drew you out; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah In distress you called, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah In your distress you called and I rescued you, I answered you out of a thundercloud; I tested you at the waters of Meribah.
8 hear, O My people, and I will testify against you—O Israel, if you would listen to Me! Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! O Israel, if you would but listen to me! Hear me, my people, and I will warn you— if you would only listen to me, Israel!
9 There shall not be among you a strange god, and you shall not bow down to foreign god. There shall be no strange god among you; you shall not bow down to a foreign god. You shall have no foreign god among you; you shall not worship any god other than me.
10 I am YHWH your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt; open wide your mouth, and I will fill it. I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.
11 My people would not listen to My voice, and Israel has not consented to Me. “But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me. “But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me.
12 And I sent them away in the stubbornness of their hearts, to walk by their own counsels. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.
13 If only My people would listen to Me, Israel would walk in My ways! Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways! “If my people would only listen to me, if Israel would only follow my ways,
14 In a moment I would subdue their enemies, and over their adversaries I would turn back My hand. I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes. how quickly I would subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes!
15 Those hating YHWH would feign obedience before Him, and their time would be forever. Those who hate the LORD would cringe toward him, and their fate would last forever. Those who hate the LORD would cringe before him, and their punishment would last forever.
16 And He would feed him of the fat of wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.” But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.” But you would be fed with the finest of wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
