TO THE OVERSEER. WITH STRINGED INSTRUMENTS. A PSALM OF ASAPH. A SONG. God [is] known in Judah, || His Name [is] great in Israel. In Judah God is known; his name is great in Israel. For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of Asaph. A song. God is renowned in Judah; in Israel his name is great.
And His dwelling place is in Salem, || And His habitation in Zion. His abode has been established in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion. His tent is in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion.
There He has shattered arrows of a bow, || Shield, and sword, and battle. Selah. There he broke the flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah There he broke the flashing arrows, the shields and the swords, the weapons of war.
You [are] bright, majestic above hills of prey. Glorious are you, more majestic than the mountains full of prey. You are radiant with light, more majestic than mountains rich with game.
The mighty of heart have spoiled themselves, || They have slept their sleep, || And none of the men of might found their hands. The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil; they sank into sleep; all the men of war were unable to use their hands. The valiant lie plundered, they sleep their last sleep; not one of the warriors can lift his hands.
From Your rebuke, O God of Jacob, || Both rider and horse have been fast asleep. At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both rider and horse lay stunned. At your rebuke, God of Jacob, both horse and chariot lie still.
You, fearful [are] You, || And who stands before You, || Since You have been angry? But you, you are to be feared! Who can stand before you when once your anger is roused? It is you alone who are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry?
You have sounded judgment from the heavens, || Earth has feared, and has been still, From the heavens you uttered judgment; the earth feared and was still, From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet—
In the rising of God to judgment, || To save all the humble of earth. Selah. when God arose to establish judgment, to save all the humble of the earth. Selah when you, God, rose up to judge, to save all the afflicted of the land.
For the fierceness of man praises You, || You gird on the remnant of fierceness. Surely the wrath of man shall praise you; the remnant of wrath you will put on like a belt. Surely your wrath against mankind brings you praise, and the survivors of your wrath are restrained.
Vow and complete to your God YHWH, || All you surrounding Him, || They bring presents to the Fearful One. Make your vows to the LORD your God and perform them; let all around him bring gifts to him who is to be feared, Make vows to the LORD your God and fulfill them; let all the neighboring lands bring gifts to the One to be feared.
He gathers the spirit of leaders, || Fearful to the kings of earth! who cuts off the spirit of princes, who is to be feared by the kings of the earth. He breaks the spirit of rulers; he is feared by the kings of the earth.
