1 For the one directing. On stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song. In Judah God is known, in Israel His name is great. In Judah God is known; his name is great in Israel. For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of Asaph. A song. God is renowned in Judah; in Israel his name is great.
2 And His tent is in Salem, and his dwelling place in Zion. His abode has been established in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion. His tent is in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion.
3 There he has shattered the arrows of the bow—the shield and sword and weapon of war. Selah There he broke the flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah There he broke the flashing arrows, the shields and the swords, the weapons of war.
4 luminous are You and majestic, from the mountains of prey. Glorious are you, more majestic than the mountains full of prey. You are radiant with light, more majestic than mountains rich with game.
5 They became plunder, the mighty of heart; they have slept their sleep, and the men of might could not find any of their hands. The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil; they sank into sleep; all the men of war were unable to use their hands. The valiant lie plundered, they sleep their last sleep; not one of the warriors can lift his hands.
6 At Your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the rider and horse are lain asleep. At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both rider and horse lay stunned. At your rebuke, God of Jacob, both horse and chariot lie still.
7 You are to be feared—You! And who can stand before Your face at the time of Your anger? But you, you are to be feared! Who can stand before you when once your anger is roused? It is you alone who are to be feared. Who can stand before you when you are angry?
8 From the heavens You have sounded the judgment; the earth has feared and has been still, From the heavens you uttered judgment; the earth feared and was still, From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was quiet—
9 at the rising of God to the judgment, to bring salvation to all the lowly ones of the earth. Selah when God arose to establish judgment, to save all the humble of the earth. Selah when you, God, rose up to judge, to save all the afflicted of the land.
10 for the wrath of man shall praise You; with the remainder of wrath You gird Yourself. Surely the wrath of man shall praise you; the remnant of wrath you will put on like a belt. Surely your wrath against mankind brings you praise, and the survivors of your wrath are restrained.
11 Make vows to YHWH your⁺ God, and fulfill them; let all around Him bring tribute to the Fearsome One. Make your vows to the LORD your God and perform them; let all around him bring gifts to him who is to be feared, Make vows to the LORD your God and fulfill them; let all the neighboring lands bring gifts to the One to be feared.
12 He takes away the spirit of princes; He is feared by the kings of the earth. who cuts off the spirit of princes, who is to be feared by the kings of the earth. He breaks the spirit of rulers; he is feared by the kings of the earth.
