1 The psalm of David which he sung to the Lord for the words of Chusi the son of Jemini. [2 Kings 16.] O Lord my God, in thee have I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me. O LORD my God, in you do I take refuge; save me from all my pursuers and deliver me, A shiggaion of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning Cush, a Benjamite. LORD my God, I take refuge in you; save and deliver me from all who pursue me,
2 Lest at any time he seize upon my soul like a lion, while there is no one to redeem me, nor to save. lest like a lion they tear my soul apart, rending it in pieces, with none to deliver. or they will tear me apart like a lion and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue me.
3 O Lord my God, if I have done this thing, if there be iniquity in my hands: O LORD my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, LORD my God, if I have done this and there is guilt on my hands—
4 If I have rendered to them that repaid me evils, let me deservedly fall empty before my enemies. if I have repaid my friend with evil or plundered my enemy without cause, if I have repaid my ally with evil or without cause have robbed my foe—
5 Let the enemy pursue my soul, and take it, and tread down my life on the earth, and bring down my glory to the dust. let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it, and let him trample my life to the ground and lay my glory in the dust. Selah then let my enemy pursue and overtake me; let him trample my life to the ground and make me sleep in the dust.
6 Rise up, O Lord, in thy anger: and be thou exalted in the borders of my enemies. And arise, O Lord my God, in the precept which thou hast commanded: Arise, O LORD, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies; awake for me; you have appointed a judgment. Arise, LORD, in your anger; rise up against the rage of my enemies. Awake, my God; decree justice.
7 and a congregation of people shall surround thee. And for their sakes return thou on high. Let the assembly of the peoples be gathered about you; over it return on high. Let the assembled peoples gather around you, while you sit enthroned over them on high.
8 The Lord judgeth the people. Judge me, O Lord, according to my justice, and according to my innocence in me. The LORD judges the peoples; judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and according to the integrity that is in me. Let the LORD judge the peoples. Vindicate me, LORD, according to my righteousness, according to my integrity, O Most High.
9 The wickedness of sinners shall be brought to nought: and thou shalt direct the just: the searcher of hearts and reins is God. Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end, and may you establish the righteous— you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God! Bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure— you, the righteous God who probes minds and hearts.
10 Just is my help from the Lord: who saveth the upright of heart. My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a just judge, strong and patient: is he angry every day? God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day. God is a righteous judge, a God who displays his wrath every day.
12 Except you will be converted, he will brandish his sword: he hath bent his bow and made it ready. If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow; If he does not relent, he will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow.
13 And in it he hath prepared the instruments of death, he hath made ready his arrows for them that burn. he has prepared for him his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts. He has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows.
14 Behold he hath been in labour with injustice; he hath conceived sorrow, and brought forth iniquity. Behold, the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. Whoever is pregnant with evil conceives trouble and gives birth to disillusionment.
15 He hath opened a pit and dug it; and he is fallen into the hole he made. He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made. Whoever digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit they have made.
16 His sorrow shall be turned on his own head: and his iniquity shall comedown upon his crown. His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends. The trouble they cause recoils on them; their violence comes down on their own heads.
17 I will give glory to the Lord according to his justice: and will sing to the name of the Lord the most high. I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High. I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the LORD Most High.
