1 Unto the end, a psalm for David. Hear, O God, my prayer, when I make supplication to thee : deliver my soul from the fear of the enemy. Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy. For the director of music. A psalm of David. Hear me, my God, as I voice my complaint; protect my life from the threat of the enemy.
2 Thou hast protected me from the assembly of the malignant; from the multitude of the workers of iniquity. Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, from the throng of evildoers, Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked, from the plots of evildoers.
3 For they have whetted their tongues like a sword; they have bent their bow a bitter thing, who whet their tongues like swords, who aim bitter words like arrows, They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim cruel words like deadly arrows.
4 to shoot in secret the undefiled. shooting from ambush at the blameless, shooting at him suddenly and without fear. They shoot from ambush at the innocent; they shoot suddenly, without fear.
5 They will shoot at him on a sudden, and will not fear: they are resolute in wickedness. They have talked of hiding snares; they have said: Who shall see them? They hold fast to their evil purpose; they talk of laying snares secretly, thinking, “Who can see them?” They encourage each other in evil plans, they talk about hiding their snares; they say, “Who will see it?”
6 They have searched after iniquities: they have failed in their search. Man shall come to a deep heart: They search out injustice, saying, “We have accomplished a diligent search.” For the inward mind and heart of a man are deep. They plot injustice and say, “We have devised a perfect plan!” Surely the human mind and heart are cunning.
7 and God shall be exalted. The arrows of children are their wounds: But God shoots his arrow at them; they are wounded suddenly. But God will shoot them with his arrows; they will suddenly be struck down.
8 and their tongues against them are made weak. All that saw them were troubled; They are brought to ruin, with their own tongues turned against them; all who see them will wag their heads. He will turn their own tongues against them and bring them to ruin; all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.
9 and every man was afraid. And they declared the works of God: and understood his doings. Then all mankind fears; they tell what God has brought about and ponder what he has done. All people will fear; they will proclaim the works of God and ponder what he has done.
10 The just shall rejoice in the Lord, and shall hope in him: and all the upright in heart shall be praised. Let the righteous one rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in him! Let all the upright in heart exult! The righteous will rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in him; all the upright in heart will glory in him!
