1 A psalm of David when he was in the desert of Edom. O God, my God, to thee do I watch at break of day. For thee my soul hath thirsted; for thee my flesh, O how many ways! O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah. You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.
2 In a desert land, and where there is no way, and no water: so in the sanctuary have I come before thee, to see thy power and thy glory. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.
3 For thy mercy is better than lives: thee my lips shall praise. Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.
4 Thus will I bless thee all my life long: and in thy name I will lift up my hands. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness: and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips. My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips, I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
6 If I have remembered thee upon my bed, I will meditate on thee in the morning: when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.
7 because thou hast been my helper. And I will rejoice under the covert of thy wings: for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.
8 my soul hath stuck close to thee: thy right hand hath received me. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.
9 But they have sought my soul in vain, they shall go into the lower parts of the earth: But those who seek to destroy my life shall go down into the depths of the earth; Those who want to kill me will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth.
10 They shall be delivered into the hands of the sword, they shall be the portions of foxes. they shall be given over to the power of the sword; they shall be a portion for jackals. They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God, all they shall be praised that swear by him: because the mouth is stopped of them that speak wicked things. But the king shall rejoice in God; all who swear by him shall exult, for the mouths of liars will be stopped. But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God will glory in him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.
