For the Chief Musician. To the tune of “Silent Dove in Distant Lands.” A poem by David, when the Philistines seized him in Gath. Be merciful to me, God, for man wants to swallow me up. All day long, he attacks and oppresses me. Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me; all day long an attacker oppresses me; For the director of music. To the tune of “A Dove on Distant Oaks.” Of David. A miktam. When the Philistines had seized him in Gath. Be merciful to me, my God, for my enemies are in hot pursuit; all day long they press their attack.
My enemies want to swallow me up all day long, for they are many who fight proudly against me. my enemies trample on me all day long, for many attack me proudly. My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride many are attacking me.
When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
In God, I praise his word. In God, I put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
All day long they twist my words. All their thoughts are against me for evil. All day long they injure my cause; all their thoughts are against me for evil. All day long they twist my words; all their schemes are for my ruin.
They conspire and lurk, watching my steps. They are eager to take my life. They stir up strife, they lurk; they watch my steps, as they have waited for my life. They conspire, they lurk, they watch my steps, hoping to take my life.
Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, God. For their crime will they escape? In wrath cast down the peoples, O God! Because of their wickedness do not let them escape; in your anger, God, bring the nations down.
You count my wanderings. You put my tears into your container. Aren’t they in your book? You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book? Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll — are they not in your record?
Then my enemies shall turn back in the day that I call. I know this: that God is for me. Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call. This I know, that God is for me. Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me.
In God, I will praise his word. In Yahweh, I will praise his word. In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise, In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise—
I have put my trust in God. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me? in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?
Your vows are on me, God. I will give thank offerings to you. I must perform my vows to you, O God; I will render thank offerings to you. I am under vows to you, my God; I will present my thank offerings to you.
For you have delivered my soul from death, and prevented my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living. For you have delivered my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life. For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.
