[For the choir director; according to [yonath elem rechokim]; a [miktam] by David when the Philistines captured him in Gath.] Have pity on me, O God, because people are harassing me. All day long warriors oppress me. Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me; all day long an attacker oppresses me; For the director of music. To the tune of “A Dove on Distant Oaks.” Of David. A miktam. When the Philistines had seized him in Gath. Be merciful to me, my God, for my enemies are in hot pursuit; all day long they press their attack.
All day long my enemies spy on me. They harass me. There are so many fighting against me. my enemies trample on me all day long, for many attack me proudly. My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride many are attacking me.
Even when I am afraid, I still trust you. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
I praise the word of God. I trust God. I am not afraid. What can mere flesh [and blood] do to me? In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
All day long my enemies twist my words. Their every thought is an evil plan against me. All day long they injure my cause; all their thoughts are against me for evil. All day long they twist my words; all their schemes are for my ruin.
They attack, and then they hide. They watch my every step as they wait to take my life. They stir up strife, they lurk; they watch my steps, as they have waited for my life. They conspire, they lurk, they watch my steps, hoping to take my life.
With the wrong they do, can they escape? O God, angrily make the nations fall. For their crime will they escape? In wrath cast down the peoples, O God! Because of their wickedness do not let them escape; in your anger, God, bring the nations down.
(You have kept a record of my wanderings. Put my tears in your bottle. They are already in your book.) You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book? Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll — are they not in your record?
Then my enemies will retreat when I call [to you]. This I know: God is on my side. Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call. This I know, that God is for me. Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me.
I praise the word of God. I praise the word of the LORD. In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise, In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise—
I trust God. I am not afraid. What can mortals do to me? in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me? in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?
I am bound by my vows to you, O God. I will keep my vows by offering songs of thanksgiving to you. I must perform my vows to you, O God; I will render thank offerings to you. I am under vows to you, my God; I will present my thank offerings to you.
You have rescued me from death. You have kept my feet from stumbling so that I could walk in your presence, in the light of life. For you have delivered my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life. For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.
