1 Judge and vindicate me, O God; plead my case against an ungodly nation. O rescue me from the deceitful and unjust man! Vindicate me, O God, and defend my cause against an ungodly people, from the deceitful and unjust man deliver me! Vindicate me, my God, and plead my cause against an unfaithful nation. Rescue me from those who are deceitful and wicked.
2 For You are the God of my strength [my stronghold—in whom I take refuge]; why have You rejected me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? For you are the God in whom I take refuge; why have you rejected me? Why do I go about mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? You are God my stronghold. Why have you rejected me? Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?
3 O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill And to Your dwelling places. Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling! Send me your light and your faithful care, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell.
4 Then I will go to the altar of God, To God, my exceeding joy; With the lyre I will praise You, O God, my God! Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy, and I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God. Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God.
5 Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you restless and disturbed within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall again praise Him, The help of my [sad] countenance and my God. Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
