1 Hallelujah! It is good to sing psalms to our God. It is pleasant to sing [his] praise beautifully. Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting. Praise the LORD. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!
2 The LORD is the builder of Jerusalem. He is the one who gathers the outcasts of Israel together. The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel. The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel.
3 He is the healer of the brokenhearted. He is the one who bandages their wounds. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
4 He determines the number of stars. He gives each one a name. He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.
5 Our Lord is great, and his power is great. There is no limit to his understanding. Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.
6 The LORD gives relief to those who are oppressed. He brings wicked people down to the ground. The LORD lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground. The LORD sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground.
7 Sing to the LORD a song of thanksgiving. Make music to our God with a lyre. Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre! Sing to the LORD with grateful praise; make music to our God on the harp.
8 He covers the sky with clouds. He provides rain for the ground. He makes grass grow on the mountains. He covers the heavens with clouds; he prepares rain for the earth; he makes grass grow on the hills. He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills.
9 He is the one who gives food to animals and to young ravens when they call out. He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens that cry. He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call.
10 He finds no joy in strong horses, nor is he pleased by brave soldiers. His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man, His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of the warrior;
11 The LORD is pleased with those who fear him, with those who wait with hope for his mercy. but the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love. the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.
12 Praise the LORD, Jerusalem! Praise your God, Zion! Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! Extol the LORD, Jerusalem; praise your God, Zion.
13 He makes the bars across your gates strong. He blesses the children within you. For he strengthens the bars of your gates; he blesses your children within you. He strengthens the bars of your gates and blesses your people within you.
14 He is the one who brings peace to your borders and satisfies your [hunger] with the finest wheat. He makes peace in your borders; he fills you with the finest of the wheat. He grants peace to your borders and satisfies you with the finest of wheat.
15 He is the one who sends his promise throughout the earth. His word travels with great speed. He sends out his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. He sends his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly.
16 He is the one who sends snow like wool and scatters frost like ashes. He gives snow like wool; he scatters frost like ashes. He spreads the snow like wool and scatters the frost like ashes.
17 He is the one who throws his hailstones like breadcrumbs. Who can withstand his chilling blast? He hurls down his crystals of ice like crumbs; who can stand before his cold? He hurls down his hail like pebbles. Who can withstand his icy blast?
18 He sends out his word and melts his hailstones. He makes wind blow [and] water flow. He sends out his word, and melts them; he makes his wind blow and the waters flow. He sends his word and melts them; he stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow.
19 He speaks his word to Jacob, his laws and judicial decisions to Israel. He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and rules to Israel. He has revealed his word to Jacob, his laws and decrees to Israel.
20 He has done nothing like this for any other nation. The other nations do not know the decisions he has handed down. Hallelujah! He has not dealt thus with any other nation; they do not know his rules. Praise the LORD! He has done this for no other nation; they do not know his laws. Praise the LORD.
