1 A psalm of David. O LORD, I cry out to you. Come quickly to me! Pay attention to me when I cry out to you! O LORD, I call upon you; hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I call to you! A psalm of David. I call to you, LORD, come quickly to me; hear me when I call to you.
2 May you accept my prayer like incense, my uplifted hands like the evening offering! Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice! May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.
3 O LORD, place a guard on my mouth! Protect the opening of my lips! Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.
4 Do not let me have evil desires, or participate in sinful activities with men who behave wickedly. I will not eat their delicacies. Do not let my heart incline to any evil, to busy myself with wicked deeds in company with men who work iniquity, and let me not eat of their delicacies! Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies.
5 May the godly strike me in love and correct me! May my head not refuse choice oil! Indeed, my prayer is a witness against their evil deeds. Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness; let him rebuke me—it is oil for my head; let my head not refuse it. Yet my prayer is continually against their evil deeds. Let a righteous man strike me—that is a kindness; let him rebuke me—that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.
6 They will be thrown down the side of a cliff by their judges. They will listen to my words, for they are pleasant. When their judges are thrown over the cliff, then they shall hear my words, for they are pleasant. Their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs, and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken.
7 As when one plows and breaks up the soil, so our bones are scattered at the mouth of Sheol. As when one plows and breaks up the earth, so shall our bones be scattered at the mouth of Sheol. They will say, “As one plows and breaks up the earth, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave.”
8 Surely I am looking to you, O sovereign LORD. In you I take shelter. Do not expose me to danger! But my eyes are toward you, O GOD, my Lord; in you I seek refuge; leave me not defenseless! But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death.
9 Protect me from the snare they have laid for me, and the traps the evildoers have set. Keep me from the trap that they have laid for me and from the snares of evildoers! Keep me safe from the traps set by evildoers, from the snares they have laid for me.
10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I escape. Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by safely. Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety.
