1 A PSALM OF DAVID. O YHWH, I have called You, hurry to me, || Give ear [to] my voice when I call to You. O LORD, I call upon you; hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I call to you! A psalm of David. I call to you, LORD, come quickly to me; hear me when I call to you.
2 My prayer is prepared—incense before You, || The lifting up of my hands—the evening present. Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice! May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.
3 Set, O YHWH, a watch for my mouth, || Watch over the door of my lips. Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.
4 Do not incline my heart to an evil thing, || To habitually do actions in wickedness, || Working iniquity with men, || Indeed, I do not eat of their pleasant things. Do not let my heart incline to any evil, to busy myself with wicked deeds in company with men who work iniquity, and let me not eat of their delicacies! Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies.
5 The righteous beat me [in] kindness. And reprove me, || My head does not disallow oil of the head, || For my prayer [is] still about their distress. Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness; let him rebuke me—it is oil for my head; let my head not refuse it. Yet my prayer is continually against their evil deeds. Let a righteous man strike me—that is a kindness; let him rebuke me—that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.
6 Their judges have been released by the sides of a rock, || And they have heard my sayings, || For they have been pleasant. When their judges are thrown over the cliff, then they shall hear my words, for they are pleasant. Their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs, and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken.
7 As one tilling and ripping up in the land, || Have our bones been scattered at the command of Saul. As when one plows and breaks up the earth, so shall our bones be scattered at the mouth of Sheol. They will say, “As one plows and breaks up the earth, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave.”
8 But to You, O YHWH, my Lord, [are] my eyes, || In You I have trusted, || Do not make my soul bare. But my eyes are toward you, O GOD, my Lord; in you I seek refuge; leave me not defenseless! But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death.
9 Keep me from the trap they laid for me, || Even snares of workers of iniquity. Keep me from the trap that they have laid for me and from the snares of evildoers! Keep me safe from the traps set by evildoers, from the snares they have laid for me.
10 The wicked fall in their dragnets together, until I pass over! Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by safely. Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety.
