1 A Psalm of David. O Yahweh, I call upon You; hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I call to You! O LORD, I call upon you; hasten to me! Give ear to my voice when I call to you! A psalm of David. I call to you, LORD, come quickly to me; hear me when I call to you.
2 May my prayer be established as incense before You; The lifting up of my hands as the evening offering. Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice! May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.
3 Set a guard, O Yahweh, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips. Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.
4 Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, To practice deeds in wickedness With men who are workers of iniquity; And do not let me eat of their delicacies. Do not let my heart incline to any evil, to busy myself with wicked deeds in company with men who work iniquity, and let me not eat of their delicacies! Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies.
5 Let the righteous smite me in lovingkindness and reprove me; It is oil upon the head; Let not my head refuse it, For still my prayer is against their evil deeds. Let a righteous man strike me—it is a kindness; let him rebuke me—it is oil for my head; let my head not refuse it. Yet my prayer is continually against their evil deeds. Let a righteous man strike me—that is a kindness; let him rebuke me—that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers.
6 Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the cliff, And they hear my words, for they are pleasant. When their judges are thrown over the cliff, then they shall hear my words, for they are pleasant. Their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs, and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken.
7 As when one plows and splits open the earth, Our bones have been scattered at the mouth of Sheol. As when one plows and breaks up the earth, so shall our bones be scattered at the mouth of Sheol. They will say, “As one plows and breaks up the earth, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave.”
8 For my eyes are toward You, O Yahweh, O Lord; In You I take refuge; do not pour out my soul to death. But my eyes are toward you, O GOD, my Lord; in you I seek refuge; leave me not defenseless! But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death.
9 Keep me from the jaws of the trap which they have set for me, And from the snares of workers of iniquity. Keep me from the trap that they have laid for me and from the snares of evildoers! Keep me safe from the traps set by evildoers, from the snares they have laid for me.
10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets, As for myself—meanwhile, I am passing by. Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by safely. Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety.
