1 [For the choir director; a psalm by David.] How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? For the director of music. A psalm of David. How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
2 How long must I make decisions alone with sorrow in my heart day after day? How long will my enemy triumph over me? How long must I take counsel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?
3 Look at me! Answer me, O LORD my God! Light up my eyes, or else I will die Consider and answer me, O LORD my God; light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death, Look on me and answer, LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
4 and my enemy will say, |I have overpowered him.| My opponents will rejoice because I have been shaken. lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,” lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken. and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
5 But I trust your mercy. My heart finds joy in your salvation. But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
6 I will sing to the LORD because he has been good to me. I will sing to the LORD, because he has dealt bountifully with me. I will sing the LORD’s praise, for he has been good to me.
