Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention; Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded, But since you refuse to listen when I call and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand,
but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof; because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof, since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke,
I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you, I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when terror strikes you, I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you; I will mock when calamity overtakes you—
when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you. when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you.
Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me, Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me. “Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me,
because they hated knowledge, and didn’t choose the fear of Yahweh. Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD, since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD.
They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof. would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof, Since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke,
Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes. therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices. they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.
For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them. For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them; For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them;
But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm.” but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.” but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”
