2 For learning wisdom and discipline; for understanding insightful sayings; To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight;
3 for receiving prudent instruction in righteousness, justice, and integrity; to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair;
4 for teaching shrewdness to the inexperienced, knowledge and discretion to a young man — to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth— for giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young—
5 let a wise person listen and increase learning, and let a discerning person obtain guidance — Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance, let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance—
6 for understanding a proverb or a parable, the words of the wise, and their riddles. to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles. for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
8 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction, and don’t reject your mother’s teaching, Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching, Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
9 for they will be a garland of favor on your head and pendants around your neck. for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.
