1 Then the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph, came near; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah and Hoglah and Milcah and Tirzah. Then drew near the daughters of Zelophehad the son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, from the clans of Manasseh the son of Joseph. The names of his daughters were: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. The daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph. The names of the daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah. They came forward
2 And they stood before Moses and before Eleazar the priest and before the leaders and all the congregation, at the doorway of the tent of meeting, saying, And they stood before Moses and before Eleazar the priest and before the chiefs and all the congregation, at the entrance of the tent of meeting, saying, and stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders and the whole assembly at the entrance to the tent of meeting and said,
3 “Our father died in the wilderness, yet he was not among the congregation of those who gathered themselves together against Yahweh in the congregation of Korah; but he died in his own sin, and he had no sons. “Our father died in the wilderness. He was not among the company of those who gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah, but died for his own sin. And he had no sons. “Our father died in the wilderness. He was not among Korah’s followers, who banded together against the LORD, but he died for his own sin and left no sons.
4 Why should the name of our father be withdrawn from among his family because he had no son? Give us a possession among our father’s brothers.” Why should the name of our father be taken away from his clan because he had no son? Give to us a possession among our father’s brothers.” Why should our father’s name disappear from his clan because he had no son? Give us property among our father’s relatives.”
5 So Moses brought their case near before Yahweh. Moses brought their case before the LORD. So Moses brought their case before the LORD,
6 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, And the LORD said to Moses, and the LORD said to him,
7 “The daughters of Zelophehad are right in their statements. You shall surely give them a possession for an inheritance among their father’s brothers, and you shall have the inheritance of their father pass on to them. “The daughters of Zelophehad are right. You shall give them possession of an inheritance among their father’s brothers and transfer the inheritance of their father to them. “What Zelophehad’s daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance among their father’s relatives and give their father’s inheritance to them.
8 Further, you shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If a man dies and has no son, then you shall have his inheritance pass on to his daughter. And you shall speak to the people of Israel, saying, ‘If a man dies and has no son, then you shall transfer his inheritance to his daughter. “Say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, give his inheritance to his daughter.
9 And if he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. And if he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers.
10 And if he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. And if he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.
11 And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his blood relative in his own family, and he shall possess it; and it shall be a statutory judgment to the sons of Israel, just as Yahweh commanded Moses.’” And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to the nearest kinsman of his clan, and he shall possess it. And it shall be for the people of Israel a statute and rule, as the LORD commanded Moses.’” If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to have the force of law for the Israelites, as the LORD commanded Moses.’”
12 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Go up to this mountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the sons of Israel. The LORD said to Moses, “Go up into this mountain of Abarim and see the land that I have given to the people of Israel. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go up this mountain in the Abarim Range and see the land I have given the Israelites.
13 So when you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was, When you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was, After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was,
14 for in the wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, you rebelled against My command to treat Me as holy before their eyes at the water.” (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.) because you rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin when the congregation quarreled, failing to uphold me as holy at the waters before their eyes.” (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.) for when the community rebelled at the waters in the Desert of Zin, both of you disobeyed my command to honor me as holy before their eyes.” (These were the waters of Meribah Kadesh, in the Desert of Zin.)
15 Then Moses spoke to Yahweh, saying, Moses spoke to the LORD, saying, Moses said to the LORD,
16 “May Yahweh, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation, “Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation “May the LORD, the God who gives breath to all living things, appoint someone over this community
17 who will go out and come in before them, and who will lead them out and bring them in, so that the congregation of Yahweh will not be like sheep which have no shepherd.” who shall go out before them and come in before them, who shall lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the LORD may not be as sheep that have no shepherd.” to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the LORD’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”
18 So Yahweh said to Moses, “Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him; So the LORD said to Moses, “Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him. So the LORD said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership, and lay your hand on him.
19 and have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and commission him in their sight. Make him stand before Eleazar the priest and all the congregation, and you shall commission him in their sight. Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him in their presence.
20 And you shall put some of your splendor on him, in order that all the congregation of the sons of Israel may obey him. You shall invest him with some of your authority, that all the congregation of the people of Israel may obey. Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him.
21 Moreover, he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before Yahweh. At his command they shall go out, and at his command they shall come in, both he and the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation.” And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the LORD. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation.” He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the LORD. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”
22 So Moses did just as Yahweh commanded him; and he took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation. And Moses did as the LORD commanded him. He took Joshua and made him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation, Moses did as the LORD commanded him. He took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole assembly.
23 Then he laid his hands on him and commissioned him, just as Yahweh had spoken by the hand of Moses. and he laid his hands on him and commissioned him as the LORD directed through Moses. Then he laid his hands on him and commissioned him, as the LORD instructed through Moses.
