1 Hear now what the LORD says: “Arise, plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice. Hear what the LORD says: Arise, plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice. Hear ye now what the LORD saith; Arise, contend thou before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice. Hear now what the LORD is saying, “Arise, plead your case before the mountains, And let the hills hear your voice. Listen to what the LORD says: “Stand up, plead my case before the mountains; let the hills hear what you have to say.
2 Hear, O mountains, the LORD’s indictment, you enduring foundations of the earth. For the LORD has a case against His people, and He will argue it against Israel: Hear, you mountains, the indictment of the LORD, and you enduring foundations of the earth, for the LORD has an indictment against his people, and he will contend with Israel. Hear ye, O mountains, the LORD'S controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for the LORD hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel. “Listen, you mountains, to the indictment by the LORD, And you enduring foundations of the earth, Because the LORD has a case against His people; And He will dispute with Israel. “Hear, you mountains, the LORD’s accusation; listen, you everlasting foundations of the earth. For the LORD has a case against his people; he is lodging a charge against Israel.
3 ‘My people, what have I done to you? Testify against Me how I have wearied you! “O my people, what have I done to you? How have I wearied you? Answer me! O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me. “My people, what have I done to you, And how have I wearied you? Answer Me. “My people, what have I done to you? How have I burdened you? Answer me.
4 For I brought you up from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery. I sent Moses before you, as well as Aaron and Miriam. For I brought you up from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, and I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. “Indeed, I brought you up from the land of Egypt, I redeemed you from the house of slavery, And I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. I brought you up out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. I sent Moses to lead you, also Aaron and Miriam.
5 My people, remember what Balak king of Moab counseled and what Balaam son of Beor answered. Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal, so that you may acknowledge the righteousness of the LORD.’ ” O my people, remember what Balak king of Moab devised, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him, and what happened from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the righteous acts of the LORD.” O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal; that ye may know the righteousness of the LORD. “My people, remember now What Balak king of Moab planned And what Balaam son of Beor answered him, <i>And what happened</i> from Shittim to Gilgal, So that you might know the righteous acts of the LORD.” My people, remember what Balak king of Moab plotted and what Balaam son of Beor answered. Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the righteous acts of the LORD.”
6 With what shall I come before the LORD when I bow before the God on high? Should I come to Him with burnt offerings, with year-old calves? “With what shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before God on high? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, <i>and</i> bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old? With what shall I come to the LORD <i>And</i> bow myself before the God on high? Shall I come to Him with burnt offerings, With yearling calves? With what shall I come before the LORD and bow down before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?
7 Would the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I present my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?” Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, <i>or</i> with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn <i>for</i> my transgression, the fruit of my body <i>for</i> the sin of my soul? Does the LORD take pleasure in thousands of rams, In ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give <i>Him</i> my firstborn <i>for</i> my wrongdoings, The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
8 He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? He hath shewed thee, O man, what <i>is</i> good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? He has told you, mortal one, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God? He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
9 The voice of the LORD calls out to the city (and it is sound wisdom to fear Your name): “Heed the rod and the One who ordained it. The voice of the LORD cries to the city— and it is sound wisdom to fear your name: “Hear of the rod and of him who appointed it! The LORD'S voice crieth unto the city, and <i>the man of</i> wisdom shall see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it. The voice of the LORD will call to the city— And it is sound wisdom to fear Your name: “Hear, you tribe. Who has designated its time? Listen! The LORD is calling to the city— and to fear your name is wisdom— “Heed the rod and the One who appointed it.
10 Can I forget any longer, O house of the wicked, the treasures of wickedness and the short ephah, which is accursed? Can I forget any longer the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is accursed? Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure <i>that is</i> abominable? “Is there still a person <i>in</i> the wicked house, <i>Along with</i> treasures of wickedness, And a short measure <i>that is</i> cursed? Am I still to forget your ill-gotten treasures, you wicked house, and the short ephah, which is accursed?
11 Can I excuse dishonest scales or bags of false weights? Shall I acquit the man with wicked scales and with a bag of deceitful weights? Shall I count <i>them</i> pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights? “Can I justify dishonest balances, And a bag of fraudulent weights? Shall I acquit someone with dishonest scales, with a bag of false weights?
12 For the wealthy of the city are full of violence, and its residents speak lies; their tongues are deceitful in their mouths. Your rich men are full of violence; your inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth. For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue <i>is</i> deceitful in their mouth. “For the rich people of the city are full of violence, Her residents speak lies, And their tongue is deceitful in their mouth. Your rich people are violent; your inhabitants are liars and their tongues speak deceitfully.
13 Therefore I am striking you severely, to ruin you because of your sins. Therefore I strike you with a grievous blow, making you desolate because of your sins. Therefore also will I make <i>thee</i> sick in smiting thee, in making <i>thee</i> desolate because of thy sins. “So also I will make <i>you</i> sick, striking you down, Making <i>you</i> desolate because of your sins. Therefore, I have begun to destroy you, to ruin you because of your sins.
14 You will eat but not be satisfied, and your hunger will remain with you. What you acquire, you will not preserve; and what you save, I will give to the sword. You shall eat, but not be satisfied, and there shall be hunger within you; you shall put away, but not preserve, and what you preserve I will give to the sword. Thou shalt eat, but not be satisfied; and thy casting down <i>shall be</i> in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take hold, but shalt not deliver; and <i>that</i> which thou deliverest will I give up to the sword. “You will eat, but you will not be satisfied, And your filth <i>will be</i> in your midst. You will <i>try to</i> remove <i>valuables for safekeeping,</i> But you will not save <i>it all,</i> And what you do save I will turn over to the sword. You will eat but not be satisfied; your stomach will still be empty. You will store up but save nothing, because what you save I will give to the sword.
15 You will sow but not reap; you will press olives but not anoint yourselves with oil; you will tread grapes but not drink the wine. You shall sow, but not reap; you shall tread olives, but not anoint yourselves with oil; you shall tread grapes, but not drink wine. Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and sweet wine, but shalt not drink wine. “You will sow but you will not harvest. You will tread the olive <i>press</i> but will not anoint yourself with oil; And <i>tread out</i> sweet wine, but you will not drink <i>any</i> wine. You will plant but not harvest; you will press olives but not use the oil, you will crush grapes but not drink the wine.
16 You have kept the statutes of Omri and all the practices of Ahab’s house; you have followed their counsel. Therefore I will make you a desolation, and your inhabitants an object of contempt; you will bear the scorn of the nations. For you have kept the statutes of Omri, and all the works of the house of Ahab; and you have walked in their counsels, that I may make you a desolation, and your inhabitants a hissing; so you shall bear the scorn of my people.” For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people. “The statutes of Omri And every work of the house of Ahab are maintained, And you walk by their plans. Therefore I will give you up for destruction, And your inhabitants for derision, And you will suffer the taunting of My people.” You have observed the statutes of Omri and all the practices of Ahab’s house; you have followed their traditions. Therefore I will give you over to ruin and your people to derision; you will bear the scorn of the nations.”
