2 As it is written in the prophets, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you: As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way, as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way” —
3 the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make ready the way of the Lord! Make his paths straight!’” the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’” “a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”
4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching the baptism of repentance for forgiveness of sins. And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
5 All the country of Judea and all those of Jerusalem went out to him. They were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins. And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
