| 22 | Jesus saith to him, 'If him I will to remain till I come, what -- to thee? be thou following me.' This word, therefore, went forth to the brethren that that disciple doth not die, | Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!” | Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” | |
| 23 | yet Jesus did not say to him, that he doth not die, but, 'If him I will to remain till I come, what -- to thee?' | So the saying spread abroad among the brothers that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?” | Because of this, the rumor spread among the believers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?” | |
| 24 | this is the disciple who is testifying concerning these things, and he wrote these things, and we have known that his testimony is true. | This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true. | This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true. | |
| 25 | And there are also many other things -- as many as Jesus did -- which, if they may be written one by one, not even the world itself I think to have place for the books written. Amen. | Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. | Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written. | |
