33 ἐπὶ δὲ τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἐλθόντες ὡς εἶδον ἤδη αὐτὸν τεθνηκότα οὐ κατέαξαν αὐτοῦ τὰ σκέλη But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.
34 ἀλλ’ εἷς τῶν στρατιωτῶν λόγχῃ αὐτοῦ τὴν πλευρὰν ἔνυξεν καὶ ἐξῆλθεν εὐθὺς αἷμα καὶ ὕδωρ But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water. Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.
35 καὶ ἑωρακὼς μεμαρτύρηκεν καὶ ἀληθινὴ αὐτοῦ ἐστιν μαρτυρία καὶ ἐκεῖνος οἶδεν ὅτι ἀληθῆ λέγει ἵνα καὶ ὑμεῖς πιστεύητε He who saw it has borne witness—his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth—that you also may believe. The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe.
