1 Call now if there be any that will answer thee, and turn to some of the saints. “Call now; is there anyone who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn? “Call if you will, but who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn?
2 Anger indeed killeth the foolish, and envy slayeth the little one. Surely vexation kills the fool, and jealousy slays the simple. Resentment kills a fool, and envy slays the simple.
3 I have seen a fool with a strong root, and I cursed his beauty immediately. I have seen the fool taking root, but suddenly I cursed his dwelling. I myself have seen a fool taking root, but suddenly his house was cursed.
4 His children shall be far from safety, and shall be destroyed in the gate, and there shall be none to deliver them. His children are far from safety; they are crushed in the gate, and there is no one to deliver them. His children are far from safety, crushed in court without a defender.
5 Whose harvest the hungry shall eat, and the armed man shall take him by violence, and the thirsty shall drink up his riches. The hungry eat his harvest, and he takes it even out of thorns, and the thirsty pant after his wealth. The hungry consume his harvest, taking it even from among thorns, and the thirsty pant after his wealth.
6 Nothing upon earth is done without a voice cause, and sorrow doth not spring out of the ground. For affliction does not come from the dust, nor does trouble sprout from the ground, For hardship does not spring from the soil, nor does trouble sprout from the ground.
7 Man is born to labour and the bird to fly. but man is born to trouble as the sparks fly upward. Yet man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward.
8 Wherefore I will pray to the Lord, and address my speech to God: “As for me, I would seek God, and to God would I commit my cause, “But if I were you, I would appeal to God; I would lay my cause before him.
9 Who doth great things and unsearchable and wonderful things without number: who does great things and unsearchable, marvelous things without number: He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted.
10 Who giveth rain upon the face of the earth, and watereth all things with waters: he gives rain on the earth and sends waters on the fields; He provides rain for the earth; he sends water on the countryside.
11 Who setteth up the humble on high, and comforteth with health those that mourn. he sets on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn are lifted to safety. The lowly he sets on high, and those who mourn are lifted to safety.
12 Who bringeth to nought the designs of the malignant, so that their hands cannot accomplish what they had begun: He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success. He thwarts the plans of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success.
13 Who catcheth the wise in their craftiness, and disappointeth the counsel of the wicked: He catches the wise in their own craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are brought to a quick end. He catches the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are swept away.

17 Blessed is the man whom God correcteth: refuse not therefore the chastising of the lord: “Behold, blessed is the one whom God reproves; therefore despise not the discipline of the Almighty. “Blessed is the one whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.
18 For he woundeth, and cureth: he striketh, and his hands shall heal. For he wounds, but he binds up; he shatters, but his hands heal. For he wounds, but he also binds up; he injures, but his hands also heal.
19 In six troubles he shall deliver thee, and in the seventh, evil shall not touch thee. He will deliver you from six troubles; in seven no evil shall touch you. From six calamities he will rescue you; in seven no harm will touch you.
20 In famine he shall deliver thee from death: and in battle, from the hand of the sword. In famine he will redeem you from death, and in war from the power of the sword. In famine he will deliver you from death, and in battle from the stroke of the sword.
21 Thou shalt he hidden from the scourge of the tongue: and thou shalt not fear calamity when it cometh. You shall be hidden from the lash of the tongue, and shall not fear destruction when it comes. You will be protected from the lash of the tongue, and need not fear when destruction comes.
22 In destruction and famine then shalt laugh: and thou shalt not be afraid of the beasts of the earth. At destruction and famine you shall laugh, and shall not fear the beasts of the earth. You will laugh at destruction and famine, and need not fear the wild animals.
23 But thou shalt have a covenant with the stones of the lands, and the beasts of the earth shall be at pence with thee. For you shall be in league with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you. For you will have a covenant with the stones of the field, and the wild animals will be at peace with you.
24 And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle is in peace, and visiting thy beauty thou shalt not sin. You shall know that your tent is at peace, and you shall inspect your fold and miss nothing. You will know that your tent is secure; you will take stock of your property and find nothing missing.
25 Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be multiplied, and thy offspring like the grass of the earth. You shall know also that your offspring shall be many, and your descendants as the grass of the earth. You will know that your children will be many, and your descendants like the grass of the earth.
26 Thou shalt enter into the grave in abundance, as a heap of wheat is brought in its season. You shall come to your grave in ripe old age, like a sheaf gathered up in its season. You will come to the grave in full vigor, like sheaves gathered in season.
27 Behold, this is even so, as we have searched oat: which thou having heard, consider it thoroughly in thy mind. Behold, this we have searched out; it is true. Hear, and know it for your good.” “We have examined this, and it is true. So hear it and apply it to yourself.”
