1 And Elihu added and said: And Elihu continued, and said: Elihu continued:
2 “Surround unto me a little, and I will show you, that there are words yet to God. “Bear with me a little, and I will show you, for I have yet something to say on God’s behalf. “Bear with me a little longer and I will show you that there is more to be said in God’s behalf.
3 I will lift up my knowledge from afar, and to my Maker I will ascribe righteousness. I will get my knowledge from afar and ascribe righteousness to my Maker. I get my knowledge from afar; I will ascribe justice to my Maker.
4 For truly, my words are not false; the one complete in knowledge is with you. For truly my words are not false; one who is perfect in knowledge is with you. Be assured that my words are not false; one who has perfect knowledge is with you.
5 Behold, God is mighty, and He does not despise; He is mighty in strength of heart. “Behold, God is mighty, and does not despise any; he is mighty in strength of understanding. “God is mighty, but despises no one; he is mighty, and firm in his purpose.
6 He does not keep the wicked alive, and He gives justice to the afflicted. He does not keep the wicked alive, but gives the afflicted their right. He does not keep the wicked alive but gives the afflicted their rights.
7 He does not take away His eyes from the righteous, but they are with kings on the throne; and He has seated them forever, and they are exalted. He does not withdraw his eyes from the righteous, but with kings on the throne he sets them forever, and they are exalted. He does not take his eyes off the righteous; he enthrones them with kings and exalts them forever.
8 And if they are bound in the fetters, caught in the cords of affliction, And if they are bound in chains and caught in the cords of affliction, But if people are bound in chains, held fast by cords of affliction,
9 then he declares to them their work and their transgressions, because they magnified themselves. then he declares to them their work and their transgressions, that they are behaving arrogantly. he tells them what they have done— that they have sinned arrogantly.
10 And He opens their ear to correction, and He says that they should turn back from iniquity. He opens their ears to instruction and commands that they return from iniquity. He makes them listen to correction and commands them to repent of their evil.
11 If they do hear and serve, they will complete their days in good, and their years in pleasantness. If they listen and serve him, they complete their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasantness. If they obey and serve him, they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity and their years in contentment.
12 And if they do not obey, by a weapon they shall pass away, and they shall die as without knowledge. But if they do not listen, they perish by the sword and die without knowledge. But if they do not listen, they will perish by the sword and die without knowledge.
13 And the godless of heart set the nose; they do not cry out when He binds them. “The godless in heart cherish anger; they do not cry for help when he binds them. “The godless in heart harbor resentment; even when he fetters them, they do not cry for help.
14 Their soul dies in youth, and their life among the male shrine prostitutes. They die in youth, and their life ends among the cult prostitutes. They die in their youth, among male prostitutes of the shrines.
15 He rescues the afflicted one by his affliction, and uncovers their ear by oppression. He delivers the afflicted by their affliction and opens their ear by adversity. But those who suffer he delivers in their suffering; he speaks to them in their affliction.
16 And indeed He has drawn you from the mouth of distress, into a broad place without constraint under it, and the resting of your table is full of richness. He also allured you out of distress into a broad place where there was no cramping, and what was set on your table was full of fatness. “He is wooing you from the jaws of distress to a spacious place free from restriction, to the comfort of your table laden with choice food.
17 And you are filled with the judgment of the wicked; judgment and justice take hold— “But you are full of the judgment on the wicked; judgment and justice seize you. But now you are laden with the judgment due the wicked; judgment and justice have taken hold of you.
18 for wrath, lest it entice you with mocking, and a large bribe not let it stretch you. Beware lest wrath entice you into scoffing, and let not the greatness of the ransom turn you aside. Be careful that no one entices you by riches; do not let a large bribe turn you aside.
19 Can your opulence make arrangement in time of distress, or all the forces of strength? Will your cry for help avail to keep you from distress, or all the force of your strength? Would your wealth or even all your mighty efforts sustain you so you would not be in distress?
20 Do not long for the night, for the coming up of peoples in place of them. Do not long for the night, when peoples vanish in their place. Do not long for the night, to drag people away from their homes.
21 Take heed not to turn to iniquity, for upon this you have been chosen by affliction. Take care; do not turn to iniquity, for this you have chosen rather than affliction. Beware of turning to evil, which you seem to prefer to affliction.
22 Behold, God is exalted in His power; who is a teacher like Him? Behold, God is exalted in his power; who is a teacher like him? “God is exalted in his power. Who is a teacher like him?
23 Who has appointed for Him His way? Or who has said, ‘You have done unrighteousness’? Who has prescribed for him his way, or who can say, ‘You have done wrong’? Who has prescribed his ways for him, or said to him, ‘You have done wrong’?
24 Remember that you should magnify His work, of which men have sung. “Remember to extol his work, of which men have sung. Remember to extol his work, which people have praised in song.
25 Every man has gazed on it; mankind looks on it from afar. All mankind has looked on it; man beholds it from afar. All humanity has seen it; mortals gaze on it from afar.
26 Behold, God is great, and we do not know Him, and there is no searching the number of His years. Behold, God is great, and we know him not; the number of his years is unsearchable. How great is God—beyond our understanding! The number of his years is past finding out.
27 For He draws up drops of water; they distill as rain from the mist, For he draws up the drops of water; they distill his mist in rain, “He draws up the drops of water, which distill as rain to the streams;
28 which the clouds pour down; they drop upon man in abundance. which the skies pour down and drop on mankind abundantly. the clouds pour down their moisture and abundant showers fall on mankind.
29 Indeed, if one will understand the spreading out of a cloud, the noises from His pavilion? Can anyone understand the spreading of the clouds, the thunderings of his pavilion? Who can understand how he spreads out the clouds, how he thunders from his pavilion?
30 Behold, He scatters His lightning around Him, and covers the depths of the sea. Behold, he scatters his lightning about him and covers the roots of the sea. See how he scatters his lightning about him, bathing the depths of the sea.
31 For by these He judges the peoples; He gives food in abundance. For by these he judges peoples; he gives food in abundance. This is the way he governs the nations and provides food in abundance.
32 With His palms He covers the lightning, and He gives a charge upon it for its striking. He covers his hands with the lightning and commands it to strike the mark. He fills his hands with lightning and commands it to strike its mark.
33 By its shouting He declares concerning it, the cattle also concerning the arising. Its crashing declares his presence; the cattle also declare that he rises. His thunder announces the coming storm; even the cattle make known its approach.
