|My spirit is broken. My days have been snuffed out. The cemetery [is waiting] for me. “My spirit is broken; my days are extinct; the graveyard is ready for me. My spirit is broken, my days are cut short, the grave awaits me.
Certainly, mockers are around me. My eyes are focused on their opposition. Surely there are mockers about me, and my eye dwells on their provocation. Surely mockers surround me; my eyes must dwell on their hostility.
Please guarantee my bail yourself. Who else will guarantee it with a handshake? “Lay down a pledge for me with you; who is there who will put up security for me? “Give me, O God, the pledge you demand. Who else will put up security for me?
You have closed their minds so that they cannot understand. That is why you will not honor them. Since you have closed their hearts to understanding, therefore you will not let them triumph. You have closed their minds to understanding; therefore you will not let them triumph.
(Whoever turns in friends to get their property should have his children's eyesight fail.) He who informs against his friends to get a share of their property— the eyes of his children will fail. If anyone denounces their friends for reward, the eyes of their children will fail.
|Now he has made me a laughingstock for many people. Now they spit in my face. “He has made me a byword of the peoples, and I am one before whom men spit. “God has made me a byword to everyone, a man in whose face people spit.
Now my eyes are blurred from grief. Now all my limbs are like a shadow. My eye has grown dim from vexation, and all my members are like a shadow. My eyes have grown dim with grief; my whole frame is but a shadow.
Decent people are shocked by this, and it stirs up the innocent against godless people. The upright are appalled at this, and the innocent stirs himself up against the godless. The upright are appalled at this; the innocent are aroused against the ungodly.
Yet, the righteous person clings to his way, and the one with clean hands grows stronger. Yet the righteous holds to his way, and he who has clean hands grows stronger and stronger. Nevertheless, the righteous will hold to their ways, and those with clean hands will grow stronger.
|But now, all of you, come and try again! I won't find one wise man among you. But you, come on again, all of you, and I shall not find a wise man among you. “But come on, all of you, try again! I will not find a wise man among you.
My days are passing by. My plans are broken. My dreams [are shattered]. My days are past; my plans are broken off, the desires of my heart. My days have passed, my plans are shattered. Yet the desires of my heart
You say that night is day. Light has nearly become darkness. They make night into day: ‘The light,’ they say, ‘is near to the darkness.’ turn night into day; in the face of the darkness light is near.
If I look for the grave as my home and make my bed in the darkness, If I hope for Sheol as my house, if I make my bed in darkness, If the only home I hope for is the grave, if I spread out my bed in the realm of darkness,
if I say to the pit, 'You are my father,' and to the worm, 'You are my mother and sister,' if I say to the pit, ‘You are my father,’ and to the worm, ‘My mother,’ or ‘My sister,’ if I say to corruption, ‘You are my father,’ and to the worm, ‘My mother’ or ‘My sister,’
then where is my hope? Can you see any hope left in me? where then is my hope? Who will see my hope? where then is my hope— who can see any hope for me?
Will hope go down with me to the gates of the grave? Will my hope rest with me in the dust?| Will it go down to the bars of Sheol? Shall we descend together into the dust?” Will it go down to the gates of death? Will we descend together into the dust?”
