1 For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins, For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. Every high priest is selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
2 being able to deal gently with the ignorant and misguided, since he himself also is beset with weakness; He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness. He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness.
3 and because of it, he is obligated, just as for the people, to also offer sacrifices for sins in the same way for himself. Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins just as he does for those of the people. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.
4 And no one takes this honor to himself, but receives it when he is called by God, even as Aaron was. And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. And no one takes this honor on himself, but he receives it when called by God, just as Aaron was.
5 In this way also Christ did not glorify Himself to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, “YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU”; So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”; In the same way, Christ did not take on himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father.”
6 just as He says also in another passage, “YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK.” as he says also in another place, “You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.” And he says in another place, “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.”
7 He, in the days of His flesh, offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence. In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. 11 Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.
14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern both good and evil. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
