1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: The word of the LORD came to me: The word of the LORD came to me:
2 Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy concerning it, and say to it: “Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir, and prophesy against it, “Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir; prophesy against it
3 Thus saith the Lord God: Behold I come against thee, mount Seir, and I will stretch forth my hand upon thee, and I will make thee desolate and waste. and say to it, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against you, and I will make you a desolation and a waste. and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against you and make you a desolate waste.
4 I will destroy thy cities, and thou shalt be desolate: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord. I will lay your cities waste, and you shall become a desolation, and you shall know that I am the LORD. I will turn your towns into ruins and you will be desolate. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
5 Because thou hast been an everlasting enemy, and hast shut up the children of Israel in the hands of the sword in the time of their affliction, in the time of their last iniquity. Because you cherished perpetual enmity and gave over the people of Israel to the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, at the time of their final punishment, “’Because you harbored an ancient hostility and delivered the Israelites over to the sword at the time of their calamity, the time their punishment reached its climax,
6 Therefore as I live, saith the Lord God, I will deliver thee up to blood, and blood shall pursue thee: and whereas thou hast hated blood, blood shall pursue thee. therefore, as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you; because you did not hate bloodshed, therefore blood shall pursue you. therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I will give you over to bloodshed and it will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you.
7 And I will make mount Seir waste and desolate: and I will take away from it him that goeth and him that returneth. I will make Mount Seir a waste and a desolation, and I will cut off from it all who come and go. I will make Mount Seir a desolate waste and cut off from it all who come and go.
8 And I will fill his mountains with his men that are slain: in thy hills, and in thy valleys, and in thy torrents they shall fall that are slain with the sword. And I will fill its mountains with the slain. On your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines those slain with the sword shall fall. I will fill your mountains with the slain; those killed by the sword will fall on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines.
9 I will make thee everlasting desolations, and thy cities shall not be inhabited: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord God. I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities shall not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the LORD. I will make you desolate forever; your towns will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
10 Because thou hast said: The two nations, and the two lands shall be mine, and I will possess them by inheritance: whereas the Lord was there. “Because you said, ‘These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will take possession of them’—although the LORD was there— “’Because you have said, “These two nations and countries will be ours and we will take possession of them,” even though I the LORD was there,
11 Therefore as I live, saith the Lord God, I will do according to thy wrath, and according to thy envy, which thou hast exercised in hatred to them: and I will be made known by them, when I shall have judged thee. therefore, as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I will deal with you according to the anger and envy that you showed because of your hatred against them. And I will make myself known among them, when I judge you. therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I will treat you in accordance with the anger and jealousy you showed in your hatred of them and I will make myself known among them when I judge you.
12 And thou shalt know that I the Lord have heard all thy reproaches, that thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying: They are desolate, they are given to us to consume. And you shall know that I am the LORD. “I have heard all the revilings that you uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, ‘They are laid desolate; they are given us to devour.’ Then you will know that I the LORD have heard all the contemptible things you have said against the mountains of Israel. You said, “They have been laid waste and have been given over to us to devour.”
13 And you rose up against me with your mouth, and have derogated from me by your words: I have heard them. And you magnified yourselves against me with your mouth, and multiplied your words against me; I heard it. You boasted against me and spoke against me without restraint, and I heard it.
14 Thus saith the Lord God: When the whole earth shall rejoice, I will make thee a wilderness. Thus says the Lord GOD: While the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. This is what the Sovereign LORD says: While the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate.
15 As thou best rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was laid waste, so will I do to thee: thou shalt be laid waste, O mount Seir, and all Idumea: and they shall know that I am the Lord. As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will deal with you; you shall be desolate, Mount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then they will know that I am the LORD. Because you rejoiced when the inheritance of Israel became desolate, that is how I will treat you. You will be desolate, Mount Seir, you and all of Edom. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
