35 And if the ox of one man strikes the ox of his neighbor and it dies, then they shall sell the living ox and divide its silver, and also the dead ox they shall divide. “When one man’s ox butts another’s, so that it dies, then they shall sell the live ox and share its price, and the dead beast also they shall share. “If anyone’s bull injures someone else’s bull and it dies, the two parties are to sell the live one and divide both the money and the dead animal equally.
36 Or if it was known that the ox itself has a habit of goring from yesterday and the day before yesterday, and its owner has not guarded it, he shall surely repay, ox for ox; and the dead animal shall be unto him. Or if it is known that the ox has been accustomed to gore in the past, and its owner has not kept it in, he shall repay ox for ox, and the dead beast shall be his. However, if it was known that the bull had the habit of goring, yet the owner did not keep it penned up, the owner must pay, animal for animal, and take the dead animal in exchange.
