1 Be careful to obey every command I give you today. Then you will live, and your population will increase. You will enter and take possession of the land that the LORD promised to your ancestors with an oath. “The whole commandment that I command you today you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land that the LORD swore to give to your fathers. Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land the LORD promised on oath to your ancestors.
2 Remember that for 40 years the LORD your God led you on your journey in the desert. He did this in order to humble you and test you. He wanted to know whether or not you would wholeheartedly obey his commands. And you shall remember the whole way that the LORD your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not. Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.
3 So he made you suffer from hunger and then fed you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had seen before. He did this to teach you that a person cannot live on bread alone but on every word that the LORD speaks. And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.
4 Your clothes didn't wear out, and your feet didn't swell these past 40 years. Your clothing did not wear out on you and your foot did not swell these forty years. Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years.
5 Learn this lesson by heart: The LORD your God was disciplining you as parents discipline their children. Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, the LORD your God disciplines you. Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.
6 Obey the commands of the LORD your God. Follow his directions, and fear him. So you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God by walking in his ways and by fearing him. Observe the commands of the LORD your God, walking in obedience to him and revering him.
7 The LORD your God is bringing you into a good land. It is a land with rivers that don't dry up. There are springs and underground streams flowing through the valleys and hills. For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing out in the valleys and hills, For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with brooks, streams, and deep springs gushing out into the valleys and hills;
8 The land has wheat and barley, grapevines, fig trees, and pomegranates. The land has honey and olive trees for olive oil. a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey;
9 The land will have enough food for you, and you will have everything you need. The land has rocks with iron ore, and you will be able to mine copper ore in the hills. a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper. a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills.
10 When you have eaten all you want, thank the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. And you shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you.
11 Be careful that you don't forget the LORD your God. Don't fail to obey his commands, rules, and laws that I'm giving you today. “Take care lest you forget the LORD your God by not keeping his commandments and his rules and his statutes, which I command you today, Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day.
12 You will eat all you want. You will build nice houses and live in them. lest, when you have eaten and are full and have built good houses and live in them, Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down,
13 Your herds and flocks, silver and gold, and everything else you have will increase. and when your herds and flocks multiply and your silver and gold is multiplied and all that you have is multiplied, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied,
14 When this happens, be careful that you don't become arrogant and forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of slavery in Egypt. then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
15 He was the one who led you through that vast and dangerous desert-a thirsty and arid land, with poisonous snakes and scorpions. He was the one who made water come out of solid rock for you. who led you through the great and terrifying wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water, who brought you water out of the flinty rock, He led you through the vast and dreadful wilderness, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock.
16 He was the one who fed you in the desert with manna, which your ancestors had never seen. He did this in order to humble you and test you. But he also did this so that things would go well for you in the end. who fed you in the wilderness with manna that your fathers did not know, that he might humble you and test you, to do you good in the end. He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.
17 You may say to yourselves, |I became wealthy because of my own ability and strength.| Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’ You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.”
18 But remember the LORD your God is the one who makes you wealthy. He's confirming the promise which he swore to your ancestors. It's still in effect today. You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day. But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
19 I warn you today that if you forget the LORD your God and follow other gods, and if you serve them and bow down to them, you will certainly be destroyed. And if you forget the LORD your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I solemnly warn you today that you shall surely perish. If you ever forget the LORD your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed.
20 The LORD is going to destroy other nations as you enter the land. You will be destroyed like them if you don't obey the LORD your God. Like the nations that the LORD makes to perish before you, so shall you perish, because you would not obey the voice of the LORD your God. Like the nations the LORD destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the LORD your God.
