1 And David and the heads of the host separated for service some of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, to prophesy with harps, stringed instruments, and cymbals; and the number of the men of work was according to their service: David and the chiefs of the service also set apart for the service the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who prophesied with lyres, with harps, and with cymbals. The list of those who did the work and of their duties was: David, together with the commanders of the army, set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun for the ministry of prophesying, accompanied by harps, lyres and cymbals. Here is the list of the men who performed this service:
2 Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asharelah, the sons of Asaph under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied according to the order of the king. Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asharelah, sons of Asaph, under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied under the direction of the king. From the sons of Asaph: Zakkur, Joseph, Nethaniah and Asarelah. The sons of Asaph were under the supervision of Asaph, who prophesied under the king’s supervision.
3 Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah—six—under the hand of their father Jeduthun, prophesying with a harp for giving of thanks and praise to YHWH. Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the direction of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with the lyre in thanksgiving and praise to the LORD. As for Jeduthun, from his sons: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah and Mattithiah, six in all, under the supervision of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied, using the harp in thanking and praising the LORD.
4 Of Heman, the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth. Of Heman, the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth. As for Heman, from his sons: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shubael and Jerimoth; Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti and Romamti-Ezer; Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir and Mahazioth.
5 All these were the sons of Heman, seer of the king in the words of God, to lift up a horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters. All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer, according to the promise of God to exalt him, for God had given Heman fourteen sons and three daughters. (All these were sons of Heman the king’s seer. They were given him through the promises of God to exalt him. God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.)
6 All these were under the hand of their father in the song of the house of YHWH, with cymbals, harps, and lyres, for the service of the house of God. Under the hand of the king were Asaph, and Jeduthun, and Heman. They were all under the direction of their father in the music in the house of the LORD with cymbals, harps, and lyres for the service of the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were under the order of the king. All these men were under the supervision of their father for the music of the temple of the LORD, with cymbals, lyres and harps, for the ministry at the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun and Heman were under the supervision of the king.
7 And the number of them with their brothers, who were instructed in the songs of YHWH, all who were skillful, was two hundred eighty-eight. The number of them along with their brothers, who were trained in singing to the LORD, all who were skillful, was 288. Along with their relatives—all of them trained and skilled in music for the LORD—they numbered 288.
8 And they cast lots for their duty unto the small as well as the great, the teacher with the pupil. And they cast lots for their duties, small and great, teacher and pupil alike. Young and old alike, teacher as well as student, cast lots for their duties.
9 And the first lot came out for Asaph to Joseph, his sons, and his brothers—twelve; the second to Gedaliah—him and his brothers and his sons—twelve; The first lot fell for Asaph to Joseph; the second to Gedaliah, to him and his brothers and his sons, twelve; The first lot, which was for Asaph, fell to Joseph, his sons and relatives 12 the second to Gedaliah, him and his relatives and sons 12
10 the third to Zaccur, his sons, and his brothers—twelve; the third to Zaccur, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the third to Zakkur, his sons and relatives 12
