New Living Translation | King James Bible |
O God, have mercy on me, for people are hounding me. My foes attack me all day long. | 1To the chief Musician upon Jonathelemrechokim, Michtam of David, when the Philistines took him in Gath. Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me. |
I am constantly hounded by those who slander me, and many are boldly attacking me. | 2Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High. |
But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. | 3What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. |
I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? | 4In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. |
They are always twisting what I say; they spend their days plotting to harm me. | 5Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil. |
They come together to spy on me— watching my every step, eager to kill me. | 6They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul. |
Don’t let them get away with their wickedness; in your anger, O God, bring them down. | 7Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God. |
You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book. | 8Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? |
My enemies will retreat when I call to you for help. This I know: God is on my side! | 9When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me. |
I praise God for what he has promised; yes, I praise the LORD for what he has promised. | 10In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word. |
I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? | 11In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me. |
I will fulfill my vows to you, O God, and will offer a sacrifice of thanks for your help. | 12Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee. |
For you have rescued me from death; you have kept my feet from slipping. So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light. | 13For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living? |
