New King James Version | NET Bible |
Then I turned and raised my eyes and looked, and behold, four chariots were coming from between two mountains, and the mountains were mountains of bronze. | 1Once more I looked, and this time I saw four chariots emerging from between two mountains of bronze. |
With the first chariot were red horses, with the second chariot black horses, | 2Harnessed to the first chariot were red horses, to the second black horses, |
with the third chariot white horses, and with the fourth chariot dappled horses—strong steeds. | 3to the third white horses, and to the fourth spotted horses, all of them strong. |
Then I answered and said to the angel who talked with me, “What are these, my lord?” | 4Then I asked the angelic messenger who was speaking with me, "What are these, sir?" |
And the angel answered and said to me, “These are four spirits of heaven, who go out from their station before the Lord of all the earth. | 5The messenger replied, "These are the four spirits of heaven that have been presenting themselves before the Lord of all the earth. |
The one with the black horses is going to the north country, the white are going after them, and the dappled are going toward the south country.” | 6The chariot with the black horses is going to the north country and the white ones are going after them, but the spotted ones are going to the south country. |
Then the strong steeds went out, eager to go, that they might walk to and fro throughout the earth. And He said, “Go, walk to and fro throughout the earth.” So they walked to and fro throughout the earth. | 7All these strong ones are scattering; they have sought permission to go and walk about over the earth." The Lord had said, "Go! Walk about over the earth!" So they are doing so. |
And He called to me, and spoke to me, saying, “See, those who go toward the north country have given rest to My Spirit in the north country.” | 8Then he cried out to me, "Look! The ones going to the northland have brought me peace about the northland." |
Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: | 9The word of the LORD came to me as follows: |
“Receive the gift from the captives—from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have come from Babylon—and go the same day and enter the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah. | 10"Choose some people from among the exiles, namely, Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, all of whom have come from Babylon, and when you have done so go to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah. |
Take the silver and gold, make an elaborate crown, and set it on the head of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest. | 11Then take some silver and gold to make a crown and set it on the head of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. |
Then speak to him, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, saying: “Behold, the Man whose name is the BRANCH! From His place He shall branch out, And He shall build the temple of the LORD; | 12Then say to him, 'The LORD who rules over all says, "Look--here is the man whose name is Branch, who will sprout up from his place and build the temple of the LORD. |
Yes, He shall build the temple of the LORD. He shall bear the glory, And shall sit and rule on His throne; So He shall be a priest on His throne, And the counsel of peace shall be between them both.” ’ | 13Indeed, he will build the temple of the LORD, and he will be clothed in splendor, sitting as king on his throne. Moreover, there will be a priest with him on his throne and they will see eye to eye on everything. |
“Now the elaborate crown shall be for a memorial in the temple of the LORD for Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen the son of Zephaniah. | 14The crown will then be turned over to Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen son of Zephaniah as a memorial in the temple of the LORD. |
Even those from afar shall come and build the temple of the LORD. Then you shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you. And this shall come to pass if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God.” | 15Then those who are far away will come and build the temple of the LORD so that you may know that the LORD who rules over all has sent me to you. This will all come to pass if you completely obey the voice of the LORD your God."'" |
