New King James Version | NET Bible |
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my meditation; Preserve my life from fear of the enemy. | 1For the music director; a psalm of David. Listen to me, O God, as I offer my lament! Protect my life from the enemy's terrifying attacks. |
Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity, | 2Hide me from the plots of evil men, from the crowd of evildoers. |
Who sharpen their tongue like a sword, And bend their bows to shoot their arrows—bitter words, | 3They sharpen their tongues like a sword; they aim their arrow, a slanderous charge, |
That they may shoot in secret at the blameless; Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear. | 4in order to shoot down the innocent in secluded places. They shoot at him suddenly and are unafraid of retaliation. |
They encourage themselves in an evil matter; They talk of laying snares secretly; They say, “Who will see them?” | 5They encourage one another to carry out their evil deed. They plan how to hide snares, and boast, "Who will see them?" |
They devise iniquities: “We have perfected a shrewd scheme.” Both the inward thought and the heart of man are deep. | 6They devise unjust schemes; they disguise a well-conceived plot. Man's inner thoughts cannot be discovered. |
But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; Suddenly they shall be wounded. | 7But God will shoot at them; suddenly they will be wounded by an arrow. |
So He will make them stumble over their own tongue; All who see them shall flee away. | 8Their slander will bring about their demise. All who see them will shudder, |
All men shall fear, And shall declare the work of God; For they shall wisely consider His doing. | 9and all people will fear. They will proclaim what God has done, and reflect on his deeds. |
The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and trust in Him. And all the upright in heart shall glory. | 10The godly will rejoice in the LORD and take shelter in him. All the morally upright will boast. |
