Moreover Job continued his discourse, and said:1And Job took up his discourse again:
As God lives, who has taken away my justice, And the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter,2"As surely as God lives, who has denied me justice, the Almighty, who has made my life bitter--
As long as my breath is in me, And the breath of God in my nostrils,3for while my spirit is still in me, and the breath from God is in my nostrils,
My lips will not speak wickedness, Nor my tongue utter deceit.4my lips will not speak wickedness, and my tongue will whisper no deceit.
Far be it from me That I should say you are right; Till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.5I will never declare that you three are in the right; until I die, I will not set aside my integrity!
My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go; My heart shall not reproach me as long as I live.6I will maintain my righteousness and never let it go; my conscience will not reproach me for as long as I live.
“May my enemy be like the wicked, And he who rises up against me like the unrighteous.7"May my enemy be like the wicked, my adversary like the unrighteous.
For what is the hope of the hypocrite, Though he may gain much, If God takes away his life?8For what hope does the godless have when he is cut off, when God takes away his life?
Will God hear his cry When trouble comes upon him?9Does God listen to his cry when distress overtakes him?
Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call on God?10Will he find delight in the Almighty? Will he call out to God at all times?
“I will teach you about the hand of God; What is with the Almighty I will not conceal.11I will teach you about the power of God; What is on the Almighty's mind I will not conceal.
Surely all of you have seen it; Why then do you behave with complete nonsense?12If you yourselves have all seen this, Why in the world do you continue this meaningless talk?
“This is the portion of a wicked man with God, And the heritage of oppressors, received from the Almighty:13This is the portion of the wicked man allotted by God, the inheritance that evildoers receive from the Almighty.
If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword; And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.14If his children increase--it is for the sword! His offspring never have enough to eat.
Those who survive him shall be buried in death, And their widows shall not weep,15Those who survive him are buried by the plague, and their widows do not mourn for them.
Though he heaps up silver like dust, And piles up clothing like clay—16If he piles up silver like dust and stores up clothing like mounds of clay,
He may pile it up, but the just will wear it, And the innocent will divide the silver.17what he stores up a righteous man will wear, and an innocent man will inherit his silver.
He builds his house like a moth, Like a booth which a watchman makes.18The house he builds is as fragile as a moth's cocoon, like a hut that a watchman has made.
The rich man will lie down, But not be gathered up; He opens his eyes, And he is no more.19He goes to bed wealthy, but will do so no more. When he opens his eyes, it is all gone.
Terrors overtake him like a flood; A tempest steals him away in the night.20Terrors overwhelm him like a flood; at night a whirlwind carries him off.
The east wind carries him away, and he is gone; It sweeps him out of his place.21The east wind carries him away, and he is gone; it sweeps him out of his place.
It hurls against him and does not spare; He flees desperately from its power.22It hurls itself against him without pity as he flees headlong from its power.
Men shall clap their hands at him, And shall hiss him out of his place.23It claps its hands at him in derision and hisses him away from his place.
