“At this also my heart trembles, And leaps from its place. | 1"At this also my heart trembles, And leaps from its place. |
Hear attentively the thunder of His voice, And the rumbling that comes from His mouth. | 2"Listen closely to the thunder of His voice, And the rumbling that goes out from His mouth. |
He sends it forth under the whole heaven, His lightning to the ends of the earth. | 3"Under the whole heaven He lets it loose, And His lightning to the ends of the earth. |
After it a voice roars; He thunders with His majestic voice, And He does not restrain them when His voice is heard. | 4"After it, a voice roars; He thunders with His majestic voice, And He does not restrain the lightnings when His voice is heard. |
God thunders marvelously with His voice; He does great things which we cannot comprehend. | 5"God thunders with His voice wondrously, Doing great things which we cannot comprehend. |
For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth’; Likewise to the gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength. | 6"For to the snow He says, 'Fall on the earth,' And to the downpour and the rain, 'Be strong.' |
He seals the hand of every man, That all men may know His work. | 7"He seals the hand of every man, That all men may know His work. |
The beasts go into dens, And remain in their lairs. | 8"Then the beast goes into its lair And remains in its den. |
From the chamber of the south comes the whirlwind, And cold from the scattering winds of the north. | 9"Out of the south comes the storm, And out of the north the cold. |
By the breath of God ice is given, And the broad waters are frozen. | 10"From the breath of God ice is made, And the expanse of the waters is frozen. |
Also with moisture He saturates the thick clouds; He scatters His bright clouds. | 11"Also with moisture He loads the thick cloud; He disperses the cloud of His lightning. |
And they swirl about, being turned by His guidance, That they may do whatever He commands them On the face of the whole earth. | 12"It changes direction, turning around by His guidance, That it may do whatever He commands it On the face of the inhabited earth. |
He causes it to come, Whether for correction, Or for His land, Or for mercy. | 13"Whether for correction, or for His world, Or for lovingkindness, He causes it to happen. |
“Listen to this, O Job; Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God. | 14"Listen to this, O Job, Stand and consider the wonders of God. |
Do you know when God dispatches them, And causes the light of His cloud to shine? | 15"Do you know how God establishes them, And makes the lightning of His cloud to shine? |
Do you know how the clouds are balanced, Those wondrous works of Him who is perfect in knowledge? | 16"Do you know about the layers of the thick clouds, The wonders of one perfect in knowledge, |
Why are your garments hot, When He quiets the earth by the south wind? | 17You whose garments are hot, When the land is still because of the south wind? |
With Him, have you spread out the skies, Strong as a cast metal mirror? | 18"Can you, with Him, spread out the skies, Strong as a molten mirror? |
“Teach us what we should say to Him, For we can prepare nothing because of the darkness. | 19"Teach us what we shall say to Him; We cannot arrange our case because of darkness. |
Should He be told that I wish to speak? If a man were to speak, surely he would be swallowed up. | 20"Shall it be told Him that I would speak? Or should a man say that he would be swallowed up? |
Even now men cannot look at the light when it is bright in the skies, When the wind has passed and cleared them. | 21"Now men do not see the light which is bright in the skies; But the wind has passed and cleared them. |
He comes from the north as golden splendor; With God is awesome majesty. | 22"Out of the north comes golden splendor; Around God is awesome majesty. |
As for the Almighty, we cannot find Him; He is excellent in power, In judgment and abundant justice; He does not oppress. | 23"The Almighty-- we cannot find Him; He is exalted in power And He will not do violence to justice and abundant righteousness. |
Therefore men fear Him; He shows no partiality to any who are wise of heart.” | 24"Therefore men fear Him; He does not regard any who are wise of heart." |
