New King James Version | Christian Standard Bible |
A Song of Ascents. Unto You I lift up my eyes, O You who dwell in the heavens. | 1I lift my eyes to you, the one enthroned in heaven. |
Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, So our eyes look to the LORD our God, Until He has mercy on us. | 2Like a servant's eyes on his master's hand, like a servant girl's eyes on her mistress's hand, so our eyes are on the LORD our God until he shows us favor. |
Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us! For we are exceedingly filled with contempt. | 3Show us favor, LORD, show us favor, for we've had more than enough contempt. |
Our soul is exceedingly filled With the scorn of those who are at ease, With the contempt of the proud. | 4We've had more than enough scorn from the arrogant and contempt from the proud. |
