New King James Version | Christian Standard Bible |
A Song of Ascents. Of David. I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the LORD.” | 1I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD." |
Our feet have been standing Within your gates, O Jerusalem! | 2Our feet were standing within your gates, Jerusalem-- |
Jerusalem is built As a city that is compact together, | 3Jerusalem, built as a city should be, solidly united, |
Where the tribes go up, The tribes of the LORD, To the Testimony of Israel, To give thanks to the name of the LORD. | 4where the tribes, the LORD's tribes, go up to give thanks to the name of the LORD. (This is an ordinance for Israel.) |
For thrones are set there for judgment, The thrones of the house of David. | 5There, thrones for judgment are placed, thrones of the house of David. |
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. | 6Pray for the well-being of Jerusalem: "May those who love you be secure; |
Peace be within your walls, Prosperity within your palaces.” | 7may there be peace within your walls, security within your fortresses." |
For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, “Peace be within you.” | 8Because of my brothers and friends, I will say, "May peace be in you." |
Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek your good. | 9Because of the house of the LORD our God, I will pursue your prosperity. |
