Timothy 2
NIV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New International VersionNew Living Translation
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people--1I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.
for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.2Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.
This is good, and pleases God our Savior,3This is good and pleases God our Savior,
who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.4who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.
For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,5For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.
who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.6He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.
And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle--I am telling the truth, I am not lying--and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.7And I have been chosen as a preacher and apostle to teach the Gentiles this message about faith and truth. I’m not exaggerating—just telling the truth.
Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.8In every place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy.
I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,9And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes.
but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.10For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission.11Women should learn quietly and submissively.
I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.12I do not let women teach men or have authority over them. Let them listen quietly.
For Adam was formed first, then Eve.13For God made Adam first, and afterward he made Eve.
And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.14And it was not Adam who was deceived by Satan. The woman was deceived, and sin was the result.
But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.15But women will be saved through childbearing, assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty.
