New International Version | Holman Christian Standard Bible |
For the director of music. Of David. In the LORD I take refuge. How then can you say to me: "Flee like a bird to your mountain. | 1For the choir director. Davidic. I have taken refuge in the LORD. How can you say to me," Escape to the mountain like a bird! |
For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. | 2For look, the wicked string the bow; they put the arrow on the bowstring to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. |
When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?" | 3When the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?" |
The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them. | 4The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD's throne is in heaven. His eyes watch; He examines everyone. |
The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion. | 5The LORD examines the righteous and the wicked. He hates the lover of violence. |
On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. | 6He will rain burning coals and sulfur on the wicked; a scorching wind will be their portion. |
For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face. | 7For the LORD is righteous; He loves righteous deeds. The upright will see His face. |
