For the music director; according to the gittith style; written by the Korahites, a psalm. How lovely is the place where you live, O LORD who rules over all! | 1For the choir director; on the Gittith. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. How lovely are Your dwelling places, O LORD of hosts! |
I desperately want to be in the courts of the LORD's temple. My heart and my entire being shout for joy to the living God. | 2My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the LORD; My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God. |
Even the birds find a home there, and the swallow builds a nest, where she can protect her young near your altars, O LORD who rules over all, my king and my God. | 3The bird also has found a house, And the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, Even Your altars, O LORD of hosts, My King and my God. |
How blessed are those who live in your temple and praise you continually! (Selah) | 4How blessed are those who dwell in Your house! They are ever praising You. Selah. |
How blessed are those who find their strength in you, and long to travel the roads that lead to your temple! | 5How blessed is the man whose strength is in You, In whose heart are the highways to Zion! |
As they pass through the Baca Valley, he provides a spring for them. The rain even covers it with pools of water. | 6Passing through the valley of Baca they make it a spring; The early rain also covers it with blessings. |
They are sustained as they travel along; each one appears before God in Zion. | 7They go from strength to strength, Every one of them appears before God in Zion. |
O LORD, sovereign God, hear my prayer! Listen, O God of Jacob! (Selah) | 8O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; Give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah. |
O God, take notice of our shield! Show concern for your chosen king! | 9Behold our shield, O God, And look upon the face of Your anointed. |
Certainly spending just one day in your temple courts is better than spending a thousand elsewhere. I would rather stand at the entrance to the temple of my God than live in the tents of the wicked. | 10For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God Than dwell in the tents of wickedness. |
For the LORD God is our sovereign protector. The LORD bestows favor and honor; he withholds no good thing from those who have integrity. | 11For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. |
O LORD who rules over all, how blessed are those who trust in you! | 12O LORD of hosts, How blessed is the man who trusts in You! |
