The one who loves discipline loves knowledge, but the one who hates reproof is stupid. 1Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, But he who hates reproof is stupid.
A good person obtains favor from the LORD, but the LORD condemns a person with wicked schemes. 2A good man will obtain favor from the LORD, But He will condemn a man who devises evil.
No one can be established through wickedness, but a righteous root cannot be moved. 3A man will not be established by wickedness, But the root of the righteous will not be moved.
A noble wife is the crown of her husband, but the wife who acts shamefully is like rottenness in his bones. 4An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, But she who shames him is like rottenness in his bones.
The plans of the righteous are just; the counsels of the wicked are deceitful. 5The thoughts of the righteous are just, But the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.
The words of the wicked lie in wait to shed innocent blood, but the words of the upright will deliver them. 6The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, But the mouth of the upright will deliver them.
The wicked are overthrown and perish, but the righteous household will stand. 7The wicked are overthrown and are no more, But the house of the righteous will stand.
A person is praised in accordance with his wisdom, but the one who has a twisted mind is despised. 8A man will be praised according to his insight, But one of perverse mind will be despised.
Better is a person of humble standing who nevertheless has a servant, than one who pretends to be somebody important yet has no food. 9Better is he who is lightly esteemed and has a servant Than he who honors himself and lacks bread.
A righteous person cares for the life of his animal, but even the most compassionate acts of the wicked are cruel. 10A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal, But even the compassion of the wicked is cruel.
The one who works his field will have plenty of food, but whoever chases daydreams lacks wisdom. 11He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who pursues worthless things lacks sense.
The wicked person desires a stronghold, but the righteous root endures. 12The wicked man desires the booty of evil men, But the root of the righteous yields fruit.
The evil person is ensnared by the transgression of his speech, but the righteous person escapes out of trouble. 13An evil man is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, But the righteous will escape from trouble.
A person will be satisfied with good from the fruit of his words, and the work of his hands will be rendered to him. 14A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his words, And the deeds of a man's hands will return to him.
The way of a fool is right in his own opinion, but the one who listens to advice is wise. 15The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But a wise man is he who listens to counsel.
A fool's annoyance is known at once, but the prudent overlooks an insult. 16A fool's anger is known at once, But a prudent man conceals dishonor.
The faithful witness tells what is right, but a false witness speaks deceit. 17He who speaks truth tells what is right, But a false witness, deceit.
Speaking recklessly is like the thrusts of a sword, but the words of the wise bring healing. 18There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, But the tongue of the wise brings healing.
The one who tells the truth will endure forever, but the one who lies will last only for a moment. 19Truthful lips will be established forever, But a lying tongue is only for a moment.
Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil, but those who promote peace have joy. 20Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, But counselors of peace have joy.
The righteous do not encounter any harm, but the wicked are filled with calamity. 21No harm befalls the righteous, But the wicked are filled with trouble.
The LORD abhors a person who lies, but those who deal truthfully are his delight. 22Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, But those who deal faithfully are His delight.
The shrewd person conceals knowledge, but foolish people publicize folly. 23A prudent man conceals knowledge, But the heart of fools proclaims folly.
The diligent person will rule, but the slothful will become a slave. 24The hand of the diligent will rule, But the slack hand will be put to forced labor.
Anxiety in a person's heart weighs him down, but an encouraging word brings him joy. 25Anxiety in a man's heart weighs it down, But a good word makes it glad.
The righteous person is cautious in his friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. 26The righteous is a guide to his neighbor, But the way of the wicked leads them astray.
The lazy person does not roast his prey, but personal possessions are precious to the diligent. 27A lazy man does not roast his prey, But the precious possession of a man is diligence.
In the path of righteousness there is life, but another path leads to death. 28In the way of righteousness is life, And in its pathway there is no death.
