For the music director, to be accompanied by wind instruments; a psalm of David. Listen to what I say, LORD! Carefully consider my complaint! 1To the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.
Pay attention to my cry for help, my king and my God, for I am praying to you! 2Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.
LORD, in the morning you will hear me; in the morning I will present my case to you and then wait expectantly for an answer. 3My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
Certainly you are not a God who approves of evil; evil people cannot dwell with you. 4For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.
Arrogant people cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who behave wickedly. 5The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
You destroy liars; the LORD despises violent and deceitful people. 6Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.
But as for me, because of your great faithfulness I will enter your house; I will bow down toward your holy temple as I worship you. 7But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.
LORD, lead me in your righteousness because of those who wait to ambush me, remove the obstacles in the way in which you are guiding me! 8Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.
For they do not speak the truth; their stomachs are like the place of destruction, their throats like an open grave, their tongues like a steep slope leading into it. 9For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.
Condemn them, O God! May their own schemes be their downfall! Drive them away because of their many acts of insurrection, for they have rebelled against you. 10Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.
But may all who take shelter in you be happy! May they continually shout for joy! Shelter them so that those who are loyal to you may rejoice! 11But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
Certainly you reward the godly, LORD. Like a shield you protect them in your good favor. 12For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.
