For the music director, to be accompanied by wind instruments; a psalm of David. Listen to what I say, LORD! Carefully consider my complaint! 1For the choir director: with the flutes. A Davidic psalm. Listen to my words, LORD; consider my sighing.
Pay attention to my cry for help, my king and my God, for I am praying to you! 2Pay attention to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for I pray to You.
LORD, in the morning you will hear me; in the morning I will present my case to you and then wait expectantly for an answer. 3At daybreak, LORD, You hear my voice; at daybreak I plead my case to You and watch expectantly.
Certainly you are not a God who approves of evil; evil people cannot dwell with you. 4For You are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil cannot dwell with You.
Arrogant people cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who behave wickedly. 5The boastful cannot stand in Your presence; You hate all evildoers.
You destroy liars; the LORD despises violent and deceitful people. 6You destroy those who tell lies; the LORD abhors a man of bloodshed and treachery.
But as for me, because of your great faithfulness I will enter your house; I will bow down toward your holy temple as I worship you. 7But I enter Your house by the abundance of Your faithful love; I bow down toward Your holy temple in reverential awe of You.
LORD, lead me in your righteousness because of those who wait to ambush me, remove the obstacles in the way in which you are guiding me! 8 LORD, lead me in Your righteousness because of my adversaries; make Your way straight before me.
For they do not speak the truth; their stomachs are like the place of destruction, their throats like an open grave, their tongues like a steep slope leading into it. 9For there is nothing reliable in what they say; destruction is within them; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongues.
Condemn them, O God! May their own schemes be their downfall! Drive them away because of their many acts of insurrection, for they have rebelled against you. 10Punish them, God; let them fall by their own schemes. Drive them out because of their many crimes, for they rebel against You.
But may all who take shelter in you be happy! May they continually shout for joy! Shelter them so that those who are loyal to you may rejoice! 11But let all who take refuge in You rejoice; let them shout for joy forever. May You shelter them, and may those who love Your name boast about You.
Certainly you reward the godly, LORD. Like a shield you protect them in your good favor. 12For You, LORD, bless the righteous one; You surround him with favor like a shield.
