Psalm 56
NASB Parallel NIV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995New International Version
For the choir director; according to Jonath elem rehokim. A Mikhtam of David, when the Philistines seized him in Gath. Be gracious to me, O God, for man has trampled upon me; Fighting all day long he oppresses me.1For the director of music. To the tune of "A Dove on Distant Oaks." Of David. A miktam. When the Philistines had seized him in Gath. Be merciful to me, my God, for my enemies are in hot pursuit; all day long they press their attack.
My foes have trampled upon me all day long, For they are many who fight proudly against me.2My adversaries pursue me all day long; in their pride many are attacking me.
When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.3When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me?4In God, whose word I praise-- in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
All day long they distort my words; All their thoughts are against me for evil.5All day long they twist my words; all their schemes are for my ruin.
They attack, they lurk, They watch my steps, As they have waited to take my life.6They conspire, they lurk, they watch my steps, hoping to take my life.
Because of wickedness, cast them forth, In anger put down the peoples, O God!7Because of their wickedness do not let them escape; in your anger, God, bring the nations down.
You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?8Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll -- are they not in your record?
Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call; This I know, that God is for me.9Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me.
In God, whose word I praise, In the LORD, whose word I praise,10In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise--
In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?11in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?
Your vows are binding upon me, O God; I will render thank offerings to You.12I am under vows to you, my God; I will present my thank offerings to you.
For You have delivered my soul from death, Indeed my feet from stumbling, So that I may walk before God In the light of the living.13For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.
