Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,1Now regarding the arrival of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to be with him, we ask you, brothers and sisters,
that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.2not to be easily shaken from your composure or disturbed by any kind of spirit or message or letter allegedly from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord is already here.
Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,3Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not arrive until the rebellion comes and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction.
who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.4He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, and as a result he takes his seat in God's temple, displaying himself as God.
Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?5Surely you recall that I used to tell you these things while I was still with you.
And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed.6And so you know what holds him back, so that he will be revealed in his own time.
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.7For the hidden power of lawlessness is already at work. However, the one who holds him back will do so until he is taken out of the way,
Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;8and then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will destroy by the breath of his mouth and wipe out by the manifestation of his arrival.
that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,9The arrival of the lawless one will be by Satan's working with all kinds of miracles and signs and false wonders,
and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.10and with every kind of evil deception directed against those who are perishing, because they found no place in their hearts for the truth so as to be saved.
For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false,11Consequently God sends on them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false.
in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.12And so all of them who have not believed the truth but have delighted in evil will be condemned.
But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.13But we ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.14He called you to this salvation through our gospel, so that you may possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us.15Therefore, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold on to the traditions that we taught you, whether by speech or by letter.
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace,16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope,
comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.17encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good thing you do or say.
