2 Thessalonians 2
NASB Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
New American Standard Bible 1995International Standard Version
1Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,1Now we ask you, brothers, regarding the coming of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, and our gathering together to him,
2that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.2not to be so quickly upset or alarmed when someone claims that we said, either by some spirit, conversation, or letter that the Day of the Lord has already come.
3Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,3Do not let anyone deceive you in any way, for it will not come unless the rebellion takes place first and the man of sin, who is destined for destruction, is revealed.
4who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.4He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god and object of worship. As a result, he seats himself in the sanctuary of God and himself declares that he is God.
5Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?5Don't you remember that I repeatedly told you about these things when I was still with you?
6And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed.6You know what it is that is now holding him back, so that he will be revealed when his time comes.
7For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.7For the secret of this lawlessness is already at work, but only until the person now holding it back gets out of the way.
8Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;8Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will destroy with the breath of his mouth, rendering him powerless by the manifestation of his coming.
9that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,9The coming of the lawless one will be accompanied by the power of Satan. He will use every kind of power, including miraculous signs, lying wonders,
10and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.10and every type of evil to deceive those who are dying, those who refused to love the truth that would save them.
11For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false,11For this reason, God will send them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie.
12in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.12Then all who have not believed the truth but have taken pleasure in unrighteousness will be condemned.
13But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.13At all times we are obligated to thank God for you, brothers who are loved by the Lord, because God chose you to be the first fruits for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through faith in the truth.
14It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.14With this purpose in mind, he called you through our proclamation of the gospel so that you would obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah.
15So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us.15So then, brothers, stand firm, and cling to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by our letter.
16Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace,16May our Lord Jesus, the Messiah himself, and may God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope,
17comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.17encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good action and word.
