| 1A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. | 1A psalm of David. The LORD owns the earth and all it contains, the world and all who live in it. |
| 2For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods. | 2For he set its foundation upon the seas, and established it upon the ocean currents. |
| 3Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? | 3Who is allowed to ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may go up to his holy dwelling place? |
| 4He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. | 4The one whose deeds are blameless and whose motives are pure, who does not lie, or make promises with no intention of keeping them. |
| 5He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. | 5Such godly people are rewarded by the LORD, and vindicated by the God who delivers them. |
| 6This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah. | 6Such purity characterizes the people who seek his favor, Jacob's descendants, who pray to him. (Selah) |
| 7Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. | 7Look up, you gates! Rise up, you eternal doors! Then the majestic king will enter! |
| 8Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. | 8Who is this majestic king? The LORD who is strong and mighty! The LORD who is mighty in battle! |
| 9Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. | 9Look up, you gates! Rise up, you eternal doors! Then the majestic king will enter! |
| 10Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah. | 10Who is this majestic king? The LORD who commands armies! He is the majestic king! (Selah) |
