Job 37
ISV Parallel NET [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNET Bible
"Now I'll conclude with this: my heart is trembling violently; it feels like it's about to leap from my body!1At this also my heart pounds and leaps from its place.
Listen carefully to his thundering voice; to the sound that rumbles from his mouth.2Listen carefully to the thunder of his voice, to the rumbling that proceeds from his mouth.
He releases his lightning throughout the sky, to the ends of the earth.3Under the whole heaven he lets it go, even his lightning to the far corners of the earth.
His thunder roars after it; his majestic voice will thunder; and no one can trace them once his voice has been heard.4After that a voice roars; he thunders with an exalted voice, and he does not hold back his lightning bolts when his voice is heard.
"God thunders with his wondrous voice; he does awesome works that we don't comprehend.5God thunders with his voice in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.
For he says to the snow, 'Fall to the earth.' He tells the rain, 'Pour down,' then it rains profusely.6For to the snow he says, 'Fall to earth,' and to the torrential rains, 'Pour down.'
"He puts a limit to the skill of every person; to delineate all people from what they do.7He causes everyone to stop working, so that all people may know his work.
"Then a beast enters its lair and remains in its den.8The wild animals go to their lairs, and in their dens they remain.
"From the south, a whirlwind proceeds, out of the icy north winds.9A tempest blows out from its chamber, icy cold from the driving winds.
From the breath of God ice is produced, and a wide body of water is frozen.10The breath of God produces ice, and the breadth of the waters freeze solid.
He also loads the clouds with moisture, scattering his lightning with the clouds.11He loads the clouds with moisture; he scatters his lightning through the clouds.
It whirls about in circles at his direction to accomplish all that he commands throughout the surface of the entire world,12The clouds go round in circles, wheeling about according to his plans, to carry out all that he commands them over the face of the whole inhabited world.
whether for discipline on his land or to demonstrate his gracious love, he causes it to be realized."13Whether it is for punishment for his land, or whether it is for mercy, he causes it to find its mark.
"Pay attention to this, Job! Stand still, and consider the wondrous attributes of God.14"Pay attention to this, Job! Stand still and consider the wonders God works.
Do you know how God ordains them, and makes his lightning to flash throughout his clouds?15Do you know how God commands them, how he makes lightning flash in his storm cloud?
Do you understand his wondrous work of balancing the clouds, the one whose knowledge is perfect,16Do you know about the balancing of the clouds, that wondrous activity of him who is perfect in knowledge?
you whose garments are hot, even though the land is cooled by a south wind?17You, whose garments are hot when the earth is still because of the south wind,
Can you spread out the skies like he does; can you cast them as one might a mirror?18will you, with him, spread out the clouds, solid as a mirror of molten metal?
Tell us! What are we to say to him? Can we prepare our case to face him when our faces are in darkness?19Tell us what we should say to him. We cannot prepare a case because of the darkness.
Has it been relayed to God that I want to talk? Can a person speak when he is confused?"20Should he be informed that I want to speak? If a man speaks, surely he would be swallowed up!
"So then, the sun is too bright to gaze at, is it not? The sky is swept clean by the wind that blows, is it not?21But now, the sun cannot be looked at--it is bright in the skies--after a wind passed and swept the clouds away.
From the north he brings gold; around God is awesome splendor.22From the north he comes in golden splendor; around God is awesome majesty.
We cannot find the Almighty— he is majestic in power and justice, and overflowing with righteousness; he never oppresses.23As for the Almighty, we cannot attain to him! He is great in power, but justice and abundant righteousness he does not oppress.
Therefore humanity fears him, which none of the wise can quite comprehend."24Therefore people fear him, for he does not regard all the wise in heart."
