Holman Christian Standard BibleBerean Study Bible
A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning the words of Cush, a Benjaminite. Yahweh my God, I seek refuge in You; save me from all my pursuers and rescue me 1A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning the words of Cush, a Benjamite. O LORD my God, I take refuge in You; save me and deliver me from all my pursuers,
or they will tear me like a lion, ripping me apart with no one to rescue me. 2or they will shred my soul like a lion and tear me to pieces with no one to rescue me.
Yahweh my God, if I have done this, if there is injustice on my hands, 3O LORD my God, if I have done this, if injustice is on my hands,
if I have done harm to one at peace with me or have plundered my adversary without cause, 4if I have rewarded my ally with evil, if I have plundered my foe without cause,
may an enemy pursue and overtake me; may he trample me to the ground and leave my honor in the dust. Selah 5then may my enemy pursue me and overtake me; may he trample me to the ground and leave my honor in the dust. Selah
Rise up, LORD, in Your anger; lift Yourself up against the fury of my adversaries; awake for me; You have ordained a judgment. 6Arise, O LORD, in Your anger; rise up against the fury of my enemies. Awake, my God, and ordain judgment.
Let the assembly of peoples gather around You; take Your seat on high over it. 7Let the assembled peoples gather around You; take Your seat over them on high.
The LORD judges the peoples; vindicate me, LORD, according to my righteousness and my integrity. 8The LORD judges the peoples; vindicate me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and integrity.
Let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous. The One who examines the thoughts and emotions is a righteous God. 9Put an end to the evil of the wicked, but establish the righteous, O righteous God who searches hearts and minds.
My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. 10My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart.
God is a righteous judge and a God who shows His wrath every day. 11God is a righteous judge and a God who feels indignation each day.
If anyone does not repent, God will sharpen His sword; He has strung His bow and made it ready. 12If one does not repent, God will sharpen His sword; He has bent and strung His bow.
He has prepared His deadly weapons; He tips His arrows with fire. 13He has prepared His deadly weapons; He ordains His arrows with fire.
See, the wicked one is pregnant with evil, conceives trouble, and gives birth to deceit. 14Behold, the wicked man travails with evil; he conceives trouble and births falsehood.
He dug a pit and hollowed it out but fell into the hole he had made. 15He has dug a hole and hollowed it out; he has fallen into a pit of his own making.
His trouble comes back on his own head, and his violence falls on the top of his head. 16His trouble recoils on himself, and his violence falls on his own head.
I will thank the LORD for His righteousness; I will sing about the name of Yahweh the Most High. 17I will thank the LORD for His righteousness and sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
