Revelation 21
ESV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
English Standard VersionNew Living Translation
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone.
And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.2And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.3I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”4He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”5And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.”
And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.6And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life.
The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.7All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.
But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”8“But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
Then came one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues and spoke to me, saying, “Come, I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb.”9Then one of the seven angels who held the seven bowls containing the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come with me! I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”
And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God,10So he took me in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and he showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.
having the glory of God, its radiance like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.11It shone with the glory of God and sparkled like a precious stone—like jasper as clear as crystal.
It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed—12The city wall was broad and high, with twelve gates guarded by twelve angels. And the names of the twelve tribes of Israel were written on the gates.
on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates.13There were three gates on each side—east, north, south, and west.
And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.14The wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were written the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
And the one who spoke with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city and its gates and walls.15The angel who talked to me held in his hand a gold measuring stick to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.
The city lies foursquare, its length the same as its width. And he measured the city with his rod, 12,000 stadia. Its length and width and height are equal.16When he measured it, he found it was a square, as wide as it was long. In fact, its length and width and height were each 1,400 miles.
He also measured its wall, 144 cubits by human measurement, which is also an angel’s measurement.17Then he measured the walls and found them to be 216 feet thick (according to the human standard used by the angel).
The wall was built of jasper, while the city was pure gold, like clear glass.18The wall was made of jasper, and the city was pure gold, as clear as glass.
The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel. The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald,19The wall of the city was built on foundation stones inlaid with twelve precious stones: the first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald,
the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.20the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.
And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.21The twelve gates were made of pearls—each gate from a single pearl! And the main street was pure gold, as clear as glass.
And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb.22I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.23And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light.
By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it,24The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the world will enter the city in all their glory.
and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there.25Its gates will never be closed at the end of day because there is no night there.
They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations.26And all the nations will bring their glory and honor into the city.
But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.27Nothing evil will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty—but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
